A doctor who GETS IT? Who is this mystical being??! Thank you for understanding sir. I wish every doctor was like you.

As someone with EDS, this is great to know. Guess that might be why the post surgery nurse asked me if I remember anything from surgery.

I have EDS and there’s nothing quite like hearing someone shout, “oh, sh$t, she’s awake!” during surgery. That and dentists who don’t believe

Thank you so much for sharing this! I've had such a terrible medical experience as an Ehlers-Danlos patient and your understanding helps me have a bit more faith that at least some doctors know about us.

I have cEDS, (both mutations, one from each parent, very very rare) I always need more anesthesia. Also nerve blocks actually don't work for me. I metabolize meds oddly, and need more pain meds like morphine. My genetic med tests showed this. I also don't absorb meds properly so often need IV meds. hEDS is by far the most common type of EDS and accounts for 90% of all cases. It is not rare, like previously thought. The other 12 types of EDS are rare. Most docs have not seen many other types of EDS, other than hEDS so don't know much about the issues with different types. For instance cEDS has the most skin involvement. Meaning most surgeons won't touch us. Our stitches must be left in longer, we also need more layers of stitches. For me they often leave them in for 6 weeks, unfortunately my scars and wounds still typically open up and stretch to over an inch. cEDS also has more organ involvement. After vEDS, it has the second highest risk of blood vessel, arterial issues. Glad to see EDS being talked about. Thank you.

I am so excited to hear a doctor say ehlers-danlos syndrome online! Remember people with the conditions you mention will also see your videos, so if you could compare people with EDS to "people without EDS" rather than saying "you or me, " that would be more inclusive by not assuming the audience doesn't have EDS. But anyway, thank you so much for the acknowledgement and the compassionate work you do!

I have EDS and just had a procedure. I explained this to the anesthesiologist and he rechecked his meds. I will also burn through lidocaine during dental appts. I don’t remember anything and it was an easy recovery. Thank you for explaining this!!

Know that spinal and epidural procedures can cause us to have CSF Leaks. And, our nerves are different. Thanks for talking about EDS and knowing that we are different.

Thanks for addressing EDS! This is so true! I was 41 years old when we discovered that I had EDS. It took such a long time to figure it out! It sure answered many questions. Thank you for your expertise Dr! ♥️♥️♥️

How do I mail this to several past doctors and many, many ER doctors? Because none seem to believe that local anaesthetics and even some generals don't work on me correctly or AT ALL sometimes. They have to learn the "hard way." Great! Except that I'm* the one suffering from them not figuring it out! Which sometimes means - going through a procedure - while having a bad reaction to an anaesthetic that *doesn't work.*

fortunately, the eds + autism combo means a weirdly high tolerance for some types of pain.

It also relates to novacane. I felt every tooth ever pulled or worked on....

Do you actually check before you put the patient under? Like ask them to do some of the stretches like bending your finger back?

Thank you for this!! I have EDS with sedation and lidocaine issues. I’m having a scheduled c-section and was nervous about a spinal not working until this video. These are very informative. Thank you for calming my EDS riddled nerves! 😊

I have EDS and they had to give me extra Numbing medication to remove my big toe nail because it was just barely hanging on my toe. I’m also guessing that is why I didn’t realize that I had a seizure when I was coming out of anesthesia when I had a operation that my OB/ GYN did on me in 2021. I learned about it when I went back to see her for the follow up appointment. I also have Epilepsy to go along with my EDS.

In my case I needed double anesthesia during my first c section because I could still feel and move. With the second one they waited an hour and tilted the table to help me not have to take so much anesthesia
