Today, I review the 2025 Mazda CX-70 S Premium, and I enjoyed it more than the plug-in hybrid CX-90. It also has strong BMW vibes, which was interesting to compare. Let us know your thoughts in the comments and what your ownership experience has been like!

After considering many vehicles, we decided to "gamble" and chose to purchase the new 2025 CX-70 S Premium. We are extremely happy with it and highly recommend it. Love the looks, inside and out. Most of the interior looks and feels much more expensive than it is. The handling is very good for a pretty large SUV/CUV. The ride is a little on the first side, and the steering is definitely a little heavy, but IMO it adds to the sporty feel. It should be noted with the turbo-S, you CAN run lower octane fuel, though there is a noticeable power difference with running the recommended higher octane fuel. The AWD system works great and the storage space is fantastic as well. We have nearly 8K miles on it so far and are very happy with our purchase. While this isn't the perfect vehicle for everyone, it checked all of our boxes and we are very glad we "gambled" with this new offering from Mazda.

The only reason you would buy a CX-90 over the CX-70 is if you pretty regularly need to drive little people around a lot. Because the third row in the CX-90 is NOT meant for regular-sized adults, number 1, and because the room for hauling in the CX-70, when you don't have to fold the third row down, is better.

On the driving experience, I own a Dinan BMW M2 with the N55 engine and some other tweaks, a heavily modified Porsche 930 as a track car, a Jaguar XKR, and a 530p V8 Ranger Rover Sport, for which I traded in a Jaguar F-Pace SVR...because my better half wanted a "double date night" lux mobile that was fast, and the suspension on the RR gives her that floaty but solid feel she finds pleasing. My kids and their friends are all out of their houses now, so the CX-9 we had back then is gone. Its replacement is a CX-70.

Load up an X5 with the optional goodies, let alone an X5M, and you are far, far above what you are out of pocket with even the top trim level of the CX-70.

This is Mazda's first try at a modern inline six, and it's impressive. It's not a B58, or even an N55, but for a first shot it is pretty darn good, especially at this price point. Give Mazda another $15k to $25 grand to spend on this thing, and they'd get much closer to an X-5, at the very least. And most of its competitors, even its own plug-in variant of this, don't offer sixes at all, and charge even more for their 4 bangers than Mazda does for this six!

You are right, though--for anything other than truly drudgerous urban, stop and go driving, the driving mode default should be sport. Any lingering tranny hesitation or clunking issues are handled just by doing that, and turning off its vesion of ignition kill at stoplights or on deceleration on the highway, which Mazda calls i-Stop. And you can do that with the press of a button. In the twisties, for its mass, the connection, feel and body roll are really quite good--not as good as my other cars, of course, but they are either "too fancy" or not worth buptkis for hauling stuff around. For us, it's a niche car, obviously, but the wife didn't want us hauling crap in her RR, and I wanted a hauler I could use as I see fit when it was time to haul. This fit that bill nicely. I miss the SVR, but the CX-70 under my circumstances is a sneaky bargain, and hauls better anyway.

Why is my Honda Passport with 280 hp/260 tq quicker than this CX70 with 340 hp/370 tq? This seems like a logical upgrade to my car when the time comes, but I dont want something slower...
