A couple years ago, Mazda multiplied the CX-5 to make the then-new CX-50, followed in 2023 by the CX-90. Now in 2024, they’re finding an in-betweener of sorts with this 2025 Mazda CX-70. Alex Kellum heads out to Palm Springs to see just how different this CX-70 is from the CX-90!

Agreed… if you are shopping Toyotas or Hondas of any class, be sure to test drive a Mazda. You’ll feel the difference in drive quality and understated style.

No 3rd seat is smart. I'm late 30s no kids, very active, as are nearly all of my friends 30-40s and we lot of us with 3 rows either remove them or keep them down 24/7 and keep camping, hockey martial arts etc equipment in them

They are very sharp in person. Lots of potential with this car.

Marketing guy :
Add weight by putting 3rd row seats, now remove 3rd row seats which makes the car lighter hence improving performance and fuel economy.

Add few extra thousands

I don't understand this vehicle. It's a cx90 without a third row? But starting msrp is higher than a cx90? Wth is going on with these manufacturers

I'm not in the market for a vehicle in this segment at all...But if I was, this is what I'd buy. Such a nice car. And fun for what it is.

Longer wheelbase than a 1978 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham;
Seat-down cargo space similar to a 1964 Dodge Dart wagon;
But it sure is pretty and Mazdas have been good cars for a long time now

So it’s like the pilot vs passport. I love driving up 74. Palms to pines parkway. Fun road. Wish I knew when you guys are here

well, Mazda actually did a good job on creating this 2 row CX-70. i know it's almost the same as the CX-90, but the CX-70 ditches the third row for more cargo space. now that's awesome.

The interior is gorgeous. I am glad to see a color other than Gray and Black. Not everybody wants a third-row seat. I bought a new Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit regular length, even though I was considering the "L" three-row Jeep GC.

I luv Mazda, but they'd better get their pricing straight. No one's gonna pay MORE for a CX-70 out over a CX-90! They'll just buy the 90 and remove the 3rd row. Boom! Done. Money saved.

I love inline 6 engines. Especially for trucks or SUVs.

Just turned 2k miles on my turbo premium plus. Overall, love the vehicle, but I have a growing list of issues I hope will be addressed:

1. Wireless charging never works, so hopefully a software update will eventually fix. When I place iPhone on it, it opens my apple wallet. Lol, maybe Mazda is looking for more money...
2. Rattles 🤬! Something annoying in console area I can't pin down yet (faint and high pitched), and something in the rear seats (maybe more). I see others with rear seat noise so I'll point that out to dealer. I do notice the rear seats vibrate (left to right) quite a bit when driving so not sure what that's all about?
3. Something not great in powertrain when starting slowly. Like a hesitation between 1st and 2nd gear. Does not do the same in sport mode (but can’t set sport mode as default).

Good luck owners - Hope Mazda and dealers transparently address these issues.

They should come up with a pick up version. Would look nice in white with a truck bed cap.

Nice review Alex.Good looking rig but seems pricey in the upper trims.

The eight-speed automatic is sometimes sluggish and reluctant to obey commands sent from the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. True?

Personally I feel like it's a missed opportunity and what I mean is, it could have just said second row Captain's chairs extended further back for you more leg room. But who knows maybe they'll redesigning it into a four-door coupe SUV.
