Does anyone else have these disorders and are afraid of having kids due to the chance they get your brain? I fear making someone feel and deal with the brain I have.

my ex-husband's doctor once told me "it's not that he has lost his mind, it's that his brain is hiding it from him" and that broke my heart. There was nothing wrong with his mind. It was his brain. that's an important distinction because our minds are who we are. (my ex was BP1 with months-long episodes of mania. he is deceased now but it was due to COVID, not his BP1).
that might not make people feel better but it makes me feel better to know that this is a real physical quantifiable illness that can be managed with medication and regular check-ups and an educated support system (family & friends & medical professionals). Just like diabetes or epilepsy. I'm not comparing the illnesses to each other except in terms of treatability and management. they all take vigilance and preparedness and maintenance, and a person might have setbacks or periods of fluctuation when adjusting medications and stuff but overall many many people are able to live long healthy lives with their families and friends because they take care of themselves.
I guess I'm saying this because my ex struggled so hard with denial. He thought we were saying he was a bad person but that wasn't it AT ALL. Like, you can be the best driver in the world but that doesn't matter if the car you're driving has a bad transmission. Let's get the car to the shop, fix the transmission, and let you show the world what a great driver you are. ❤praying for everyone out there struggling with this whether it's you with the diagnosis or someone you love.

Here is a note from someone with manic...the mood goes from happy and energetic and even very creative for abouta week and I forget to eat and sleep and that activates the week of anger lol followed by depression when it finally completely drains me..

People with bipolar disorder frequently display extreme, intense, and disturbing emotional states known as mood episodes. Extreme happiness or excitement (mania) and melancholy (depression) are typical symptoms of mood episodes. People with bipolar disorder can also have normal moods occasionally.👍

I am diagnosed Bipolar 1 (mixed episodes and rapid cycling) since 25 and I'm 42 now. Hypersexuality is a sign I'm in mania. I also have auditory hallucinations when not on meds (on 7 rt now). Sounds like a very low and distant radio but i can't make out the words or even the type of music. Lamictal 200mg (topped out now) helped with that but I've been on it for 3yrs so drs believe that it may not be as affective. They just added a new med called Saphris. It's sublingual and it's makes my mouth numb for about an hour. Also have PTSD, OCD, Social Anxiety Disorder, and General Anxiety Disorder. Just a ball on anxiety 😆

I wish they would call these illnesses two totally different names. So much of what I read about is bipolar I. Bipolar II gets lost in the mix.

I was diagnosed with bipolar at a very young age and put on heavy antipsychotics. Now that I have been off all meds for two years learning to cope on my own I can still tell something is off but I’m scared to go back and possibly get misdiagnosed again. High school was the worst period of my life because of the never ending medication changes.

I'm a diagnosed bipolar i dont have depression and never have. My episodes are either high hyper like energy and a great ass mood not necessarily happy but definitely a high, or my other episode is severe anger (so much so i hallucinate about violence being done, I get a migraine, and i have audio hallucinations) but when I take my bipolar meds I stay at my baseline.

Also reading some of these comments really helps me feel like I'm not alone. It's interesting to see a "community" of people with similar issues as me..

Also check for 2 antibodies for hashimoto’s as hyper and hypothyroid symptoms will be presented as going back and fourth between energy levels. & seasonal pattern involves deficiencies which thyroid enzymes/any autoimmunity functions requires to function appropriately via vitamin D

Hey dude, mind explaining the term immunologic? Also how is an elevated mood abnormal if it is present most of the day, every day?
