That was beautiful. I was reminded of my wonderful mother who suffered from dementia. I tried always and in all ways to treat her as kindly every day the same way she treated me as a child. There were days she was very confused and asked the same question multiple times, but to me it was a blessing, because she was my mother and I loved her. I was blessed to be there holding her in my arms as she passed from this world to the next. Always and in all ways treat your parents with respect and kindness.

Beautiful story, mother lived with me the last 12 years of her life, and I was always delighted to see my three adult kids give her so much time.

Thanks for this beautiful story. It's just sad that this happens numerous times with the kids today . . . forgetting what their parents had done for them when they were young with nary an irritation but with unconditional love.

Thank you for this. I served my parents with all that I had until the day they died. It was my honor. And I didn't have to be told that they sacrificed and gave all they could to me as I was growing up. I had figured that out early in my life. So, I was prepared, willing and able. I mourned the loss of the abilities they had when younger. But what the heck. Can't stay same age forever. Aging can bring such wisdom and more joy to all if you can embrace it.

Your message is so powerful. I have seen people get so angry at their parents for becoming older. I tell them that if they are blessed to become the same age, how would they prefer to be treated? With understanding, patience and love. Or with the opposite. Makes a difference all the time. I also respond with understanding.

When we are kids, we tend to think of our parents as immortal. They're very mortal and it's tough to have to lose one to realize that. I took care of my dad for 5-6 years while he lived alone. He'd gotten to be immobile and couldn't do some things on his own. I had to learn patience and not to get upset with pop because he wasn't in good health. I learned more from him over those 6 years than our whole lives. Any time is good time to spend with your parents so enjoy each day like it's the very last.

Well I enjoyed listening..I am 80 yes old, but my first reaction to this was EDGAR Allen Poe
. The Crow who said NEVER MORE...until old age arrives you cannot imagine. Also NOT All parents are fit to be parents. Humour helps.

I lost my dad, uncle & 2 Aunties from Dementia 5 years ago. All sister's & brothers. Now, we have our Momma who has been diagnosed with Alzheimers. I hate this disease. It turns a person into someone they are not or nor woud they do the odd things they do. I PRAY they find a cure, for a illness they have NO IDEA how a person gets it or if it is hereditary or not.? 4 people in my dad's family had it, it is a very scary & challenging illnesses.

I'm old now. I've knocked on many doors. Some fed me. But they all turned me away. Yes, even my 2 sons. Now I have to find my place to live till I die. Alone.
