Is it Ethical to Write Your Own Letter of Recommendation for a Job or Program?

You may need a written reference/recommendation for a program you’re applying to or a company you're looking to join. If you ask someone to be your reference and they ask you to write it for them, is this okay?

Is it dishonest or unethical to write your own review and have someone else put their name to it? I’ll give you my thoughts as well as tips to have excellent references.

I had to do this for a scholarship because my prof was busy and the other one wasn’t good enough in English. That’s what I got from her at least! I did exactly what you said 👏🏻
This channel is so helpful. Thank you so much!♥️👏🏻

I face the same thing with my clients on LinkedIn. They are totally satisfied with my work but some of them ask me to write a recommendation for myself because they don't know how and what to write. I don't like writing recommendations for myself so I always politely reject this option and I just hope that they will leave me a recommendation someday. After your tips, I believe I should reconsider this option. Thank you Madeline.

Hi what if you are a manager and you decided to close your business to find another job and you decide to write your own letter of recommendation without revealing that you were the manager, is it still acceptable? I know someone who is doing that and I want to know if it is legal thank you.

This is not at all ethical. Shame on you for suggesting such a thing.
