Many of these skills also taught us how to think logically, interact with our fellow humans, and assimilate literacy and numeracy....a lot of these things are now lacking in modern society because we can do so much from a computer screen without needing to leave the house. I for one am also thankful for paper maps when I am in an area with no signal and no battery power!

Thanks for more great memories of the past as I'm 59 now and

Paper maps give you BOTH a large area and detail at the same time and do not need power or wifi. They are better for learning an area and planning multi stop trips

When everything collapses you will find GenX to be the Sages amongst society. We can still think and reason for ourselves, and as you stated we have skills.

I still purchase Blu Rays. This way, if the streaming company loses the licensing, I can still watch movies and TV series that I like.

Map skills should never die. Not only does it help without cell towers etc…but just for sheer memory’s-sake. The brainpower that’s needed to rationalize where you are and what’s going on is MAGNITUDES more than being spoon fed your know location on earth.

As a baby boomer, I MISS all the paper we used. I'm a tactile person.

Knowing how to read a map is not a useless skill. You're not getting cell coverage everywhere you go. There are places that do not have cell towers.

When the power goes out, who survives? GenX.

I unironically miss phone books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and almanacs.

Some things like paper maps and bus schedules, sure, and I know how to use card catalogues and typewriters, but math, I can do the basic stuff but otherwise need a calculator or someone who is good at it to make them figure it out. Language arts and history were my strong subjects, math and science not so much. Oh, and yes, I remember film development stations at stores and how to put the rolls into the camera and take them out again.

I think one would benefit from a friendship with a Gen Xer because we don't play when it comes to getting stuff done. We'll find a way and if we can't, we'll figure out another way.
We were abandoned by our mothers every morning, locked out to live by our wits and logic, came home when it got dark, hungry as all get out. And we succeeded.
I still keep things written down. In cursive. Encyclopedias had truth whereas Wikipedia does not. Wikipedia is popular opinion.

Cursive writing still exists today, cause teenagers are practicing this! 😊

Only bad thing about streaming services and digital downloaded games is you can't display your collection. I have over a 1000 DVD's, Blu Rays and VHS tapes neatly displayed in my living room. The same goes for my gaming collection in my game room.

I think they are confusing Gen X with Baby Boomers for most of the things in this video.

I'm shocked at the number of adult men who don't know the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. I'm talking ages 20s to 60s. I'm 55. I can read a map and use the sun as I ride into areas with no cell coverage.

I’m thankful that I am old enough to remember the USA before it became crappy!

I still try to keep all of these. Except the FAX machine. No tapes, but vinyls and CDs are great. No VCRs. What else?
