This is the last song I showed my mother before she passed away last Christmas.
I remember it with complete and utter clarity.
As she lay in her hospital bed, I placed my headphones gently on her ears and pressed play.
I remember all the features of her beautiful face, each line and crease had a story to tell about her life. And what a life it was, filled elation, joy and unequivocal love, along with sorrow and more pain than I care to imagine.
Her strength and love is something that I can only aspire to.
As the song reached it crescendo I watched as the hairs on her arms began to slowly raise created by tiny goosebumps. Then as the song slowly drew to an end, I witnessed the most radiant smile along with one....just one little teardrop falling from her cheek.
We didn't need words...
When her eyes stared into mine it was the warmest, most pure love only a mother and her child could possibly convey.
We were absolutely blissful in the sound of silence.

I can't believe they denied him to sing the national anthem because he "is a metal singer" he would rock that

Fun Fact: The symbol for the band Disturbed, used originally as art for the band's Believe album, is actually made up of four religious symbols: The Jewish Star of David, The Wiccan Pentacle (often confused to be a satanic symbol), The Crescent Moon of Islam and the Christian Cross. The idea was for it to be a symbol that represented Unity especially since most of the band was raised Catholic save for lead singer, David Draiman, who was raised Jewish and claimed that while they don't believe in religion itself they do believe in God.

Usually a cover can never outplay the original, but Draiman's voice and the slower tempo actually make the message of this song much more meaningful. S&G is a great version, no doubt. This one just hits more to your heart and soul.

He sang it like a demon and an angel at the same time

The emotion he puts into the song just makes it so much more beautiful.
Such an excellent voice.

This is how to cover any honest heartfelt respect.

This isn't a cover version. It's an incredible homage. And still gives me the biggest feels and chills ever.

People talking without speaking.
People hearing without listening.

There seems to be a lot of that.

A lot of people think the original is better and I can understand why, but this version, in my opinion, portrays the raw emotion I think the song was meant to portray. Disturbed did it perfectly. And that is why I prefer this version.

I usually loathe when a masterpiece is modernized, but I think this was very well done.

To all “musicians” In the modern music industry, this is how you cover a song. You treat it with respect and keep the feel of the song, while adding your voice to it

A much darker sound and feel than the original. AWESOME.

Wow. He has astounding control over his voice.

Also I just realized Disturbed's cover was released on my birthday.

This song is so incredibly powerful... If you're not moved by this rendition, then you are a soulless husk....

Am I the only one thinks that in a once in a blue moon. A cover is better then the original. Honestly, who else agrees this is far more deep then the original. I'm not discrediting anyone. I just really enjoy this version.

If this song isn't played at my funeral, than I'm not attending

Disturbed's version of the Sound of Silence is just epic. I have no other words for it. Can I have this play at my funeral? Heck, I wouldn't mind listening to this while I'm dying. That would be a epic end to my life.
