I love this video!! You posted it at the perfect time because this is pretty similar to how I have been feeling recently- even though our situations are very different. Whenever I tell people that my girlfriend is in the Air Force, they usually pity me. And it does kind of suck sometimes. But I think distance is somewhat of a blessing. My girlfriend and I have been together for three years and I just finished my first year of college. We are so young that I think time apart from one another is ESSENTIAL. We are adjusting to adult life on our own before settling down together which I think is so perfect for us. If my girlfriend wasn't in the military, we would not be able to control ourselves and give each other space, and I think I would have a lot of trouble balancing a serious relationship, school work, and a social life with my friends. If I were trying to maintain a longterm, serious relationship with someone who wasn't in the military at this point in my life, I think it would be a lot harder in some ways!! My girlfriend is also gaining a lot of amazing experiences because of the military and I think that is so important. We get to grow apart as individuals, and pick up right where we left off when we eventually settle down. I know that in the long run, the distance will have a positive impact on our relationship!! :)

I completely agree!! Where were stationed right now my husband does training rotations every other month and did an 8 month deployment last year, and as shitty as it CAN be, I always feel like I thrive more in my personal life. Not so stuck in the house doing nothing, out with friends, eating cleaner etc. Plus whenever he comes back it feels like we're stronger than ever. Much love Caty! Can't wait for your travel vlogs coming up 😊

It is so so so weird that you posted this video today. My husband is gone for a few weeks- unrelated to military but he is in the Air Force. Today I was just having a really hard time with it, more than most days, and seeing this just really helped remind me of the benefits of some time apart. This time around is no where near as long and hard as when he was in basic and tech school, but separation is still hard when you’re used to living and sharing most of your life with someone. But it really makes us realize how much we love and appreciate each other and reuniting at the end is so rewarding.

Love this video! I especially love what you said about the meaningful conversations you have. That is one thing I’ve stressed to my friends when they’ve asked “how can you trust someone who’s not living in the same city?” And my response is always this: being long distance kind of forces you to build strong communication skills. We talk A LOT because it’s all we really have. It honestly feels amazing to be in such an open and trusting relationship.. it doesn’t even feel like we’re long distance. We have so many deep and meaningful conversations and we REALLY appreciate eachother when we do get to spend time physically together. Also Im pretty grateful for our situation right now and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Henry and I have been long distance for way over two years now but in that time, I’ve had that time to take on my life goals since I wasn’t ready to marry. I’m now a senior in college and will be graduating with my bachelors in mathematics. All while working full time. I’ll be promoting to SSgt soon at my guard unit. I’ve got an amazing job at my university tutoring math and an amazing job with my unit. There’s so much I’ve done WITH him by my side (emotionally). With that growth, I’ll be able to join him wherever his next station is with a solid foundation with my personal welfare.

I'm so happy you made this video! Jeremy and I have been long distance for more than half of our relationship (almost 5 of the 8 years we've been together) and there are definitely some great things about being apart and I feel like most people only talk about the bad aspects. Obviously not saying it's not hard, but it's not all bad!

Love, love, love this. I’m getting ready to join the Air Force (my husband is already in, so we’ll be dual military) and one of the things I’ve been worrying about is going through the long distance thing again and possibly for a long time. We’re stationed in England so being back in the states and being time zones apart is something I’m not looking forward to. So I know long distance isn’t all peaches and cream, but when you put things like this, you make me feel excited about the time apart rather than nervous. I remember when he was gone, I focused on my health more too and my spirituality. So long story short 😅 I want to thank you for putting things into a different perspective for me.

Being in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend for almost 3 years has brought us closer. There time we need to work on ourselves and then when we're together we appreciate all those moment together. We had many challenges throughout our relationship since being distance but we work on them together because having that moment when we're under one roof will be all worth it! 😊

Happy Anniversary!!! Good spots in life are awesome. My husband and I have been together for 21 years and being seperated now and then, ive found, really accelerates personal growth. Then you find more to contribute to being together💚

Long distance made us closer... When my wife is away for whatever reason with the military, we become closer and stronger not only as a unit together, but also as individuals.

I agree completely, i visited my husband half way thru his tour and it was very much needed. The time apart has shown the appreciation i have for my relationship a lot more than i normally did when he was home. I never knew how much distance while it sucks has strengthen me as a person and us as a relationship.

I've been married almost 33 years, and we've been separated very rarely (a month or two here and there). But we dated long distance in college. I agree with the deep conversations part of your video--ours took place via letter (back in the Stone Age lol!), and I tell you, those letters are so precious to me. Thx for sharing your heart. (And yes, tomatoes are freaking cool. )

I think long distance is so tricky. I have been doing long distance with my boyfriend for three years we have been together soon five years.
We are currently on a little break. I think it is so tricky to find the balance of being your own person, yet still working on your relationship.
I agree long distance can be so rewarding, and we have grown so much I feel.

Totally can relate to the depth on the conversations while my husband was deployed. ❤

Caty, I think a section on how to cook and care for a cast iron pan would be amazing! I know you cook with it a lot
