***
"Somewhere in Time" is a 1980 time travel romance film directed by Jeannot Szwarc, written by Richard Matheson and starring Christopher Reeve, Jane Seymour, Christopher Plummer, Teresa Wright and including an early appearance by then-unknown William H. Macy. The movie was filmed on location at the Grand Hotel, and the former Mackinac College - both located on Mackinac Island, Michigan. It was also filmed in Chicago.
Although this movie was well received during its previews, it was widely derided by critics upon release and unsuccessful at the box office. It has earned a large and loyal following since its release to cable television and video, and the movie is now regarded by many to be a cult classic.
Reeve plays Richard Collier, a playwright who becomes smitten by a photograph of a young woman at the Grand Hotel. Through self-hypnosis, he travels back in time to the year 1912 to find love with actress Elise McKenna (portrayed by Seymour). But her manager William Fawcett Robinson (portrayed by Plummer) fears that romance will derail her career and resolves to stop him.
The film is adapted from the 1975 novel Bid Time Return by science fiction writer Richard Matheson, which was subsequently re-released under the film's title.
The film is known for its musical score, composed by John Barry. The eighteenth variation of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini also runs throughout the film.

This re-recording of John Barry's score for the "Somewhere in Time" movie was recorded in a 20-bit digital audio by John Debney and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

I feel sorry for people that don't tear up when they hear this music. Romance is enhanced by beautiful moving mood music that speaks to the heart...

My first ever high school movie date was to see "Somewhere in Time". Although I knew my date wasn't destined to be the love of my life, I did discover that I was a romantic who was truly touched by the tenderness of a musical piece like this. I didn't find my wife until much later in life - we got married when I was 37. We now have 2 beautiful children, and I'm thankful every day for all of them. Finding true love is the best thing in the world, at any time of your life - great musical theme.

Isn't it just amazing and wonderful how certain music can take us back to a place and time that is so clear, it's like being there again. Nothing else can do that. Love this.

This music has and does mean so much to me and brings tears to my eyes. My first husband passed over before we had really begun to move forward w/our daughters. I played the movie over and over. I really believe Somewhere In Time for reunion with our loves ones.
This video captures my feelings. Thank you.

I was a very young newlywed when I saw this movie on cable one afternoon. My new husband came home to find me sobbing at the ending of this haunting beautiful film. He picked me up and carried me straight to bed. That beautiful man died young. But I will always have that sweet memory, and no one will ever take his place.

Every time i hear this piece of music, especially the high note, i always picture the scene of christopher reeve in somewhere in time walking in the sea side reminiscing. And i can really feel his too much sorrow for the lost of the love of his life. What a very sad love story. I cant help but to shed tears. 😢
