Internal Compulsions in OCD

Dr. Jerry Bubrick discusses the "hidden" mental compulsions some children with obsessive-compulsive disorder must contend with. Most kids with OCD are pretty good at hiding their rituals, even if they are elaborate physical tasks. When the rituals are internal, like counting, parents and caregivers need to be even more attentive to notice the symptoms and get children the help they need.

Most of my compulsions are mental.. They can't be seen but they are always there.. Sometimes it gets really overwhelming and debilitating. The amount of anxiety is just too much.. I'm not officially diagnosed but I think I'm suffering from Moral Scrupulosity OCD. It's hard.. Obsessions just occupy my mind and I can't think about anything else.. I can't study, I can't have fun.. I don't hate my OCD. I think it can be useful and helpful in some ways.. I don't consider it my enemy.. Despite everything.. But I hate the way it makes me feel. It's exhausting sometimes. I just want to feel happy. 😔😭

Kudos on spreading awareness of OCD in children. I have personal experience with OCD and CBT in my family. This personal experience made it infinitely important for me to portray it accurately in my book, Oxford Messed Up. Most depictions in fiction, movies and on tv focus on eccentric behavior and ignore the internal torture.

No way, I used to spell long lists of swear words in my head but I never had OCD

I scored high in OCD on a test but I thought it was normal. I wonder how accurate the tests are?
