I swear I wish I'd known all this back in college a gazillion years ago. (I am 70.) Learning these things now has given me so much joy. I've been able to grow my nails out longer and keep them well manicured longer. I'm really having fun with this, and it's thanks to folks like you on YouTube for this education.

I apply another coat of topcoat every 2-3 days and my manicure lasts for 1-2 weeks

Very helpful. I am 62 and only do my nails at Christmas. The wrong way. But now that I have a better understanding how to do it, I may do it more often. Thanks for sharing.

Great video!!! I'm a nail tech in NJ and I will always tell my clients to apply another top coat the next day after the manicure. It also helps the polish to last. ☺️

base coat has never worked for me. Whenever I use it, it peels even more.

you can also use rubbing alcohol or acetone to dehydrate the nail.

I don't spend much on my nail products because I really can't afford it. However, if I stick to the basics, I can make my $2 sinful colors polishes last for a month. My nails always grow out before chipping. Not sure what I'm doing right..
I use 2 coats of my Revlon strong adhesive base coat, 2-3 coats of color till I reach complete opacity, then I use a very thin Sally Hansen kwik dry top coat, followed by another coat of thick top coat (don't remember what brand. I have a few, but I always spend good money on my bases and tops). I always make sure to wrap the tips with every coat. I also refuse to use gel polish because I change the color too often and removal is awful for your nails.
My nails are super strong and I take good care of them.. always shaping them, touching up the edges so they don't snag, and moisturizing between manis.
I haven't been to a salon in years because I prefer doing my own. Last time I got a professional mani, it chipped in 2 days.
I can't see spending $20 at the salon when my nails look just ad nice when I do them. I use to do farm work and they wouldn't chip. Not even after being soaked in water. I'm seriously so rough on them and they always stay almost perfect somehow. :-)
I think a lot of it has to do with everything I've learned from watching tutorials like yours .

Wearing gloves is such a good tip! It makes a BIG difference. I have super fancy gloves that are almost fun so that it'll give me more incentive to wear them. EVERY TIME I clean my kitchen without gloves my manicure gets totaled and my cuticles look like they're college students during finals. lol My mom is always saying that she just can't wear polish even though she loves it because her hands are in water too often, told her to wear gloves but she hasn't gotten any. For Christmas I'm buying her cuticle oil and nice gloves because I hate that she wants to wear polish but feels like she can't keep it nice looking for long enough.

wow that was a long rant over rubber gloves... anyways great video!

When I get manicures, I apply an extra top coat for the next 3 days..my mani lasts soooo long! I'm a crazy hand washer, so my nail polish will start fading quickly, unless I use that trick.

Somehow my polish usually lasts at least 2 weeks and I do absolutely nothing to baby it. You said that nails can get stained. Mine start to yellow after a few months, which is common. I was trying whitening toothpaste, which I heard was good for this. A sudden brainstorm hit me. If whitening toothpaste helped, what would denture cleaner do? I got some and tried it. Magic happened. Just a few minutes in a cup of warm water with one tablet and my nails came out perfectly normal again. To date, I have never heard anyone else do this. I'd love you to try it and see if it works on others. And yes, I use one of the best brands of base coats religiously. They still turn yellow, possibly because of the long times between manis? 😊

Cap the tips!! Cap the free edge of your nail with base coat, do the same with every coat of Polish, and don't forget to do it with top coat as well!! It definitely helps to keep yur manicure on longer!

Omg thank you I've been wasting so much time for months now. Paint my nails and redo it two days later because of constant peeling and chipping. I always use cuticle oil first and never ever use base coat. Thank you for the tips!!!

Thanks for thinking of this series!
I've never had problems with peeling or chipping, and it's mostly because my nail plate is not greasy at all. I can wear a regular polish mani for almost 2 weeks with minimal tip wear (my current mani has been going for 12 days with only minor chips). This is wonderful during exam season, when I can't change my polish but don't like going naked

Find this really useful.
The other tip that I always do when painting my nails is make sure nails are dry before top coat . I find if I don't let it dry, my colour bleeds onto the brush ( might just be me ) .
So glad I found your channel x

You can use mouthwash to dehydrate your nails. I do that every single time I paint my nails.

You introduced me to cuccio’s dehydrator and base coat. I absolutely love both! My manicures used to last two or three days before chipping now they last up to two weeks. This video is awesome!

Also, another amazing product I got because of your recommendation is zoya’s polish remover!

Thank you for all the amazing recommendations 💜

Thank you so much for these tips!! I'm 30 and have been painting my nails since I was allowed to own polish lol. My biggest problem is after two days they always chip or peel. I do use base and top coat, but I don't dehydrate them!!
