News from the set of *Doctor Who Series 8*! Ben Wheatley talks Sci-Fi Horror stories and the Darkest Doctor ever. I also address Cameo rumors from said 'other' Doctor :)

Do you think Capaldi's Doctor will be darker than John Hurt's was, albeit briefly, in the 50th Anniversary Special?

If Capaldi's Doctor will be the darkest yet pre-Valeyard, then the _Doctor Who_ story I'd like to see most is where the scariest monster is the Doctor himself.

I want to see an episode in which a peaceful alien race are discovered to be living in and using dalek tech and travel machines. No actual dalek creatures inside, so how did they acquire it? To make things worse, it turns out that this friendly alien race is actually under attack by humans. Capaldi's Doctor has to decide whether or not to wipe out the invading humans - a race he usually ends up rescuing from others. Totally flipped upside down.

I'll try to get *Anime Club* out soon. But *Agents Of SHIELD* is debuting *Deathlok* on tonight's episode!

I'm looking forward to Capaldi, , ,   I don't mind the idea of a Smith phone call.  But it seems like Clara would be the very last Companion ever to need such a thing.  After all, she's known scads of Doctor incarnations.  A new incarnation should be almost ho-hum for her.

One thing I loved about the first time the Brig met #7...  #7 was surprised that the Brig instantly recognized him and didn't seem the least bit fazed by the new face.  But, why would he be?  He'd met several Doctors before. He knew the drill. :)

While I like the idea of Series 8 going back to the series' roots, I will never understand why people seem to think that "darker" instantly means "better." It does let the series explore more mature themes and concepts, but the actual quality of the series is based on the writing and acting.

That said, I'm sure Capaldi, Coleman, and the writers will be able to pull together a great season. Episodes taking cues from the likes of The Pyramids of Mars or The Talons of Weng-Chiang could do wonders for the revival.

im tired of everything being dark lately but I think it will work for doctor who, I hope matt smith doesn't appear though because he had like 3 goodbyes in his last episode

My mind immediately jumped to "Horror at Fang Rock". We haven't seen the Rutans yet and they could be the focus of a very creepy story!

I think my favorite moments of the Doctor so far are 9 going off at the Dalek and 10 punishing the family of blood, so this is well recieved

My dark doctor episode wishlist for this year include 1) a big dark, thought provoking, suspenseful time puzzle... like Blink, The Big Bang, etc. I want my mind to explode! 2). Frightening stories with good badies that make you hide behind couches. Can the Master do this? I would really, honestly like to fear the Master if they bring him back. He too often a comical character, but he could be terrifying if filmed right. 3) Good River plot scenes. I want to see their last date, that could be dark... or at least sad. And I want it to make me cry. Besides that, I'm in love with Alex Kingston's portrayal of River, even if the plot can be half-baked sometimes. She is phenomenal!

But, if none of these happen, I won't really be disappointed. Doctor Who is surprising and unexpected. That's what makes it so good. It's not tied down. I'm super excited for this season! I'm glad we got another Whovian to play to role, that's going to bring so much depth :D

Eccleston was a pretty angry Doctor.  That 2nd to last ep in particular.

I'd love to see a Doctor Who episode in the vein of Inferno or Horror of Fang Rock

I'm quite excited by the thought that Capaldi's era will be more like classic Doctor Who. I think it's the right time. I look forward to the new season with great anticipation.

I would love to see the return of Sutekh from 'Pyramids of Mars' as one of the Series 8 villains.

Maybe they will be able to make the Daleks scary/serious again.

one of my favorite aspects of the doctor was perfectly summed up in the episode "show up, talk fast and hope something comes out of it, take credit" that light hearted approach to the doctor but if peter will be a darker doctor i will really miss that

I'm simply glad to have an older Doctor, having younger Doctors is okay, but when The Doctor is older he has ALOT more experience in acting.

I would really like another episode like Caves of Androzani with the 5th Doctor. It wasn't just about the Doctor like most recent episodes, but a much bigger picture of a political battle for a whole planet. There's a reason why its considered the best ever episode: its freshness. Couldn't we have another in the same style?
