Tasting December Figs | Announcement

I started growing figs in 2017 in my urban orchard backyard West of Phoenix, Arizona (AZ). We see triple digits for 4-5 months of the year and low humidity but are blessed to be able to grow figs over a long growing season. I've trialed 80+ fig varieties for 6 years and have whittled my collection down to around 30. This video shares some of the fig varieties ripening here towards the end of the season in mid-December. If you grow in a warm climate, consider adding these varieties to extend your season and enjoy exquisite fig fruit. I will be selling cuttings from many of my fig trees next month on my Etsy store.

I just started growing more Fig trees and now have 21 varieties. You have a few varieties I don't have that look pretty good. I always enjoy how informative your videos are.

Best fruit and fig resource in Phoenix valley. THANK YOU! And our 2nd year RLBV from you is still giving us an occasional fig here in December.

I agree my Deana fig is giving us good figs in December as well, in Mesa!

Your pond water movement in the background is so beautiful sounding, so peaceful.

How hot is your tap water in your yard? I presume you are on drip, right? Our water never comes out below about 90F in the summer at midnight or even later. This goes on all summer long. I've had to do all kinds of things to get "cooler" water for the baby trees in containers. It's bad enough they have to put up with 120 during the day, but to never get a drink of cool water, just root soup water, is very tough on them.

Nice late season figs… our Smith got stripped earlier… Black Madeira too small… interested in others mentioned.

My 3 fig cuttings from Harvey are still doing great in their 15 gallon pots. Black Madeira, White Madeira, and Col De Dame Blanc. Of those 3, do you think the White Madeira will get big enough to graft onto? I remember seeing Harvey’s White Madeira trees and they seemed pretty good size trees. I have three of the White Madeira cuttings growing.
Definitely want to grow a Red Lebanese Becca Valley in ground. Finally starting to run out of room. 😢
Not sure if I chose good cuttings for Phoenix area.

Your videos have gotten me interested in figs now! Couple of questions. Where do you go to taste different varieties of figs? How do you identify the type of fig tree? I moved into my current home in 2010 and it had a fig tree on the side yard. I never took care of the tree until recently and the fruit is very good. When ripe, the fig is purple at the base and green towards the stem with a light pink to yellow interior. They get to about ping pong ball size and taste very sweet fig taste with no berry notes. I noticed it is slightly earthy tasting when not fully ripe but is wonderful when the skin just beings to wrinkle. Any help on this would be much appreciated and thank you for the great content for Phoenix 9b.

In January when you have your fig cuttings sale do we need to come to your store or can we order them online. I live in the Deer Valley/Phoenix area. If online what is your website? Thanks
Heather

From what I’ve read nearly all cultivated fig varieties have fig mosaic virus, have you had any issues with it in your trees?

Hi there, what the use of neem oil when trees get dormant? How do you apply it? Thank you!

Do you prefer to leave figs on the fig tree after the leaves have fallen off in winter? Thank you.

Those varieties you showed, are they the late varieties you have? Any BNR or other late CDDames?

Seems like I heard somewhere figs have to be pruned a particular way. Do you have a video specific to this? Also, I know you have chickens, are they laying eggs this time of year? Mine aren’t. 😢

Wow, what a beautiful, really sorta "tasty" fig's cool review, dear lady!
Btw, could you, please, give us some rate for the "Ronde de Bordeaux" fig tree's fruit taste on your very personal and very respectful taste scale "... /out of 10", please?

Thank you, always a pleasure to learn stmh brand new from you,

Cheers, Serge.
