Marvel Rivals is now finally out and the brand new hero shooter in the MCU universe is being received pretty damn well.

That doesn’t mean it’s free from controversy, for reasons I'm sure are probably clear by now. Rivals shares more than a few things in common with Overwatch.

But is it simply just inspiration, an improvement, or a legitimate rip off?

Rivals has similarities but is unique enough where it’s not a direct copy for me.

Funny how Blizzard is calling Marvel Rivals an "Overwatch Clone" while they did the exact same to Team Fortress 2. Besides, Marvel Rivals is the first actual competitor for Overwatch and that's a good thing, it should push both games to be the best they can be.

A "shameless" ripoff isn't what I'd call it. I almost want to call it a ripoff for the benefit of the fans. Players loved Overwatch when it came out, and over the years, that love fell. Now this game came out and the overwhelming comment I keep hearing is "It's Overwatch if Overwatch was still good"

If Rivals REALLY wants to lean into the whole "copy of OW" thing, they should tell the community they're going to make an entire PVE component, and that's why they're going to shut down the current game to re-release it, only to add (more) microtransactions, wait a year, then tell the community they're just not going to do what they said. That would REALLY show OW and Blizzard they don't have a patent on being shitty!
