This is the sister ship of HMS Edinburgh which went down in the Barents Sea during WW2 carrying 465 gold bars.

Since I was a child visiting family in the south from Manchester I always have to visit HMS Belfast, it’s a ritual with my dad.

I was in that engine room last May. What a great visit I had to the ship from California.

All that massive damage and she didn't sink!! She deserved to live forever as a museum ..

Taking 3 years to repair makes the return of the USS Samuel B Roberts to service a mere one year after striking a mine & taking severe damage that much more incredible.

Fab cruiser in her day and was capable of lobbing shell up to 14 miles from her six inch main armament. She played a crucial bombardment role on D-Day and was one of the most advanced ships of her type when launched in ‘38.

HMS Belfast most famous for being one of 3 Cruisers who held off Scharnhoret defending a Convoy until Battleships HMS Duke of York appeared and sank it, at one time HMS Belfast was only Cruiser left as other two were damaged but Belfast kept in contact and reported location of Scharnhoret to Duke of York

Proof of the pudding the Belfast is still moored in the Thames, floating. One mine is designed to sink a Battleship and the Belfast is a Battlecruiser.

I know a fellow who served on her in the late 50s. He always spoken fondly of his service on the ship.

Fun Fact!

The guns are zeroed on London Gateway Services on the M1 Motorway.

The captain of old obviously had breakfast there!

I'll get my Sou'Wester...
