Stucco lathing and how to stucco.
Waterproofing wood walls is called lathing in stucco language.
Folks, we are located in Oakland, Ca.

Howdy Folks, all the basic tools we use and recommend on Amazon's website.
Kirk Giordano Plastering Inc.

Howdy, all. Since I have been asked about bonding stucco and mechanical bonding, I thought I'd explain what I have learned from my teachers of yesteryear.

The stucco is adhered by a mechanical bond versus a chemical bond.

Also, this was recorded after 5 weeks of rain in California, thus rocks in the bags and in the sand.
Not a big deal but normal as white on rice.
Thus, don't whine or get mad; deal with rock or clumps in stucco; it kinda makes the day fun.

For immediate bids, send pictures to Jay or myself at our sites below.

Thanks for watching.

A mechanical bond just means that electrons are not transferred or shared between the two materials which is a chemical bond. Chemical bonds are stronger than mechanical bonds. You are creating the mechanical bond by scratching the surface of the stucco so it has something to adhere to. This is the same concept as roughening concrete if you need to pour over it.

Hey kirk my daddy was a plasterer and he had a 2’x3’ screen about 1/2” spacing in a 2x4 frame he would use on suspect stucco bags that had rocks. He would screen it before mixing. It took an extra minute to do but would eliminate the rocks. Do you use his old school technique?
