I've read 'My enemy's cherry tree' and I had the same reaction too..I couldn't make sense of it either...half way in, it was going good and then at some point I lost track and it was so confusing. And I searched up a review for the same reason. What I understood is that she left because she was feeling guilty about the way she managed to make money to help her husband. And the pictures on the table and her reaction to him being intimate that night were maybe the clues to get it because the book doesn't rlly say why...well im rlly confused with the whole miss baixiu thing. and perhaps i am wrong about the story as a whole. I just don't feel like re-reading it which would've helped with understanding it further🤦🏻‍♀️ the way the book was written, the speech and descriptions was what kept me reading it to the end tho. The setting is just beautiful!
