Hi! My name is Leonie and I am a 23 year old girl who loves talking about books! From YA to non-fiction to classics, I read it all (although fantasy will always be my fave). I live in the Netherlands and go to university, but make booktube videos in my spare time :)

I, too, will defend the hunger games until the end of time. Reading it as an adult really just opens your eyes to all of the hidden meanings and the awful realities of the book, how it applies to our world today. I have a political science degree and I feel like it would be good to teach in a politics class! Especially since she really utilized just war theory in her (Read from an interview put in the 10th anniversary edition of THG)

Dorian Gray was written during the Decadent era! So not romantic, but it was another period of literature that really cared about sentiments and feelings and exploring that using extremes, like extreme situations and extreme personalities. Also, it was a time in which the artists did sort of rebel against the canonical interpretation of how a man had to act in society (rich, capitalist, hard worker, interested in politics, imperialist) so they created male characters really in touch with their feelings (maybe a bit too much) and many sort of blurred the gender borders, and started exploring homosexual relationships in literature in a way that was disturbing to the society of the time

The Harry Potter series, for sure. I love the characters, the stories, the humour and the nostalgia so much!

The Picture of Dorian Grey is considered part of the Aesthetic Movement, which is an extension of romanticism.

You are one of the most well articulated youtubers I’ve ever watched. As a Brit who has lived in the Netherlands, it’s not your English that surprises me, but your impressive vocabulary paired with a fun / comedic personality and delivery. A joy to watch! Thank you for your videos.

As a fellow member of the hunger games defense squad, I think it's also sooo overlooked how well Suzanne Collins writes about trauma. Katniss suffers severe PTSD symptoms throughout all three books, which doesn't make her the perfect, strong, political figure that all the adults around her want her to be. But it's real. How else do you expect a 17 year old girl to react to surviving a death match and then being thrown head first into a revolutionary war?!?!
I think that we saw a lot of poorly written examples of this during the 2010's YA dystopian explosion and sometimes forget how Katniss's trauma was so pervasive in the second and third books. Even the epilogue of Mockingjay alludes to the fact that the only way Katniss could have a "normal" future was with Peeta because they shared a desire to finally feel safe after all that they had been through. You are so right for having these books on your all-time favorite list!!!!

“And I would recommend this to formerly gifted, burnt-out kids”
If that doesn’t say enough about the book, I don’t know what will

I don't know if I'm the only one who feels like this, but I like a ton of books (like, a ton), but it's so rare that I LOVE a book and properly fall in love with the story/world... So idk what my favourite books are lol

Angel Fall. This one had a grip on me from the very beginning like the author knows really well how to keep you invested. Devoured the entire series in two days. I highly recommend everyone read this.

The Gilded Wolves Series was a chef kiss. Honestly half of the time I had no idea what was going on which is the reason I think most of the people put their hands down on this one but please don't make that mistake because I swear as the book proceeds and everything kinda starts making sense, you are going to devour it. I loved loved and loved this one.

The Hunger Games is really underrated. I read it as an adult and I still have a place in my heart for it because YOU'RE RIGHT, it's meaningful and has some really good commentary on growing up and even on class consciousness.

When it comes to speaking of The Picture of Dorian Gray, I think it's important to state that the portrait started to reflect Dorian's soul only after he wished for this portrait to age instead of him. I think this is crucial to understand the book well.
