Just goes to show that YouTube has gotta improve the "3 strikes" system. It makes such an obvious opening for phishing attempts on ANY creator.

What's more disturbing is why YouTube takes so long to reinstate channels after they are hacked. One of my fav channels was hacked in recent days and they have almost four hundred k subs and are verified with the tick. YouTube would have photos of this channels operator from their live streaming and uploads so it should be a matters of hours for reinstatement, yet amazingly, not only days have passed but YouTube still allows the hacked channel to operate. YouTube needs to be taken to task for doing very little to help hacked channels.

Jim Browning himself got tricked, but it was so tricky since the sender was actually has the YouTube name as sender, although if you look into it closely they differ in the URL.
Thank goodness he got his channel back!

This happened to me as well. I was stupid and opened the shared file on my GoogleDrive. AVG caught something, but that's all that happened. The next day, my Google account was compromised and completely taken over. Had no access to my email or YouTube channel. To make matters worse, my Microsoft account was also hacked into, including my Xbox profile. Thankfully, both Google and Microsoft were able to recover my accounts 6 days after the hack and got everything as it was. The hacker didn't do anything to my YouTube channel, so all my videos were still there, thankfully. Scary stuff... I'm usually pretty careful, never been infected or hacked before until now. Lesson learned.

As an FYI, the zipped 400MB file is that size not because it's full of executable code (it's mostly filler ascii), but because some AV will not check a file of that size. If something offers you a file of 400MB or more, that's a red flag.

John is a fucking beast. Wish I had even 5% of his knowledge.

I don’t know if it was a lapse in judgment or arrogance these hackers tried it but they sure screwed up trying it on John 😂

I got this exact email last month but I never opened it because of the sketchy gmail address. I went back to my creator studio to make sure if the video in question had a copyright claim but everything seemed fine. I remember telling myself, now that’s a new phishing attempt! Be careful guys, always be skeptical when opening links!

The file extension ".scr" is a Windows "screensaver file", not a "screenshot file", which is basically an exe file under the hood that can take special command line arguments to configure the screensaver, preview, etc.

I just recovered my second YouTube channel yesterday. It was hacked and the hacker was uploading crypto trading videos. After doing some background check, I found out it was a file I downloaded that stole my details from my browser, now I use tor OS to browse and will never use Autofill again.

I think it’s a good point to discuss the ‘ Redline Logs Stealer ‘ that John mentioned in the video.
It has become well known this year for its power, like stealing tokens, cookies, auto fills, and stuff like that.
So I suggest making some videos explaining what this malware is all about and how to secure our accounts in case of the attacker possesses cookies.

I appreciate your job, Chuck ✌️
Ty, for the information
