The more horsepower you get out of any engine increases the problems. Boxer engines are much better balanced than inline 4 engines and have a much lower center of gravity. Btw up in the north subies are everywhere. Sti ftw.

Turbo Subarus = Sports Cars = Thrashed and modified (usually poorly) = Worked To Death = "Oh my subaru is so unreliable" with the failed to mention "after I abused it and neglected it"

A well looked after one with either stock or *propper* mods will outlast any American car and most of them especially the older ones will see 200+k without any major issues.

Yeah your Toyota will last longer and you will be bored to death long before the car dies, and most Toyotas are not sports cars and are no where near as much fun as a Subaru and will not corner or handle anything like it.

Other things to concider on your regular cars with front or rear wheel drive you can spin that power away, Subarus all there life have had 100% of that power to the ground and all that strain through the engine / drive train and still manage to be reliable.

Scotty, the inline engine is pretty old too, the Model T was produced in 1908, I doubt it was the first to use an inline. The boxer was coined by Karl Benz in 1896. Chances are the boxer is newer, but either way, stop spreading misinformation about boxer engines. The layout does not cause head gasket failure, that is down to gasket design, engine design and use.

Like Scotty said in the beginning of the video, a modern V8 will give you plenty of power, much more reliably and much cheaper. The handling is great too, this isn't the 60's era muscle cars. The other thing most people ignore with AWD is the added cost. 3 differentials instead of just 1. 2 sets of axels, etc.... Keep up the great work, Scotty!

We used to pinpoint vacuum leaks by spraying carburetor cleaner. If there was a leak the at a particular spot being sprayed, the engine would speed up for a moment.

Another source of low oil pressure is a clogged oil pump intake screen. I bought a Buick from a guy who changed the oil every 10, 000 miles whether it needed it or not. The screen became very clogged and would starve the motor for oil.

I had to drop the oil pan. There was about an inch of what looked like burnt coffee grounds. I soaked the oil take up screen in carb cleaner. Dried it out. Never had another problem.

190K on my stage 2 Forester XT 5 speed (STI block with a WRX turbo, in a nutshell). motor and body. head gasket issues were only really present in the 2.5 liter N/A motors from the mid 90's to 2013. the turbo motors use beefier gaskets and unless the car is really getting hot rodded or the boost is cranked the head gaskets should last a long while.

V's and inlines engines are much older designs. Boxers are naturally balanced. Though, like any turbo charged car, they could go through the head gaskets like mad. This includes the modern designs. Most common failure of head gasket in an inline is cylinder blow by, where it bridges between cylinders. This is due to the same problem a Subaru has, too little surface area between the cylinders. While on the Subaru, it's because there is too little surface area between the 2.5 liter open deck design and the coolant. (Closed decks do not suffer from this, like the EJ22T.) The 2.0 liter semi closed or closed decks wont suffer from this, but increasing the turbo size can cause issues on any car. I have seen 500 hp Subaru builds quite often. I have seen one 990hp Subaru. It's not the older design that is an issue. But I understand that the fandom does need to come down off its' high horse.
