A knock sensor monitors your vehicle’s engine for unusual pulsations caused by things such as engine knock. If a sensor is damaged or malfunctioning, the engine may run poorly, inefficiently, or only in a low speed safe mode, and may also trigger diagnostic codes. This video shows you how to install a new knock sensor in your 1999-2007 Chevy Silverado.

This repair was done on a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L and the process should be similar on the following vehicles:
1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Just did this repair while I watched this video. Took 7 hours, 2 trips to the parts store to get the right tool to remove the fuel lines. I broke one heater core hose and the PCV vent hose, another trip to the store. But the transmission shop was going to charge over $800 to do this. THANK YOU! My truck runs great again with 226, 000 miles

Just did this to a 2006 Suburban. It was really easy and I also changed out the cam shaft position sensor as well as oil pressure sensor. Figured I might as well since I had access to them. I also put a bead of silicon around the rubber boots of the knock sensors to help keep water out of them. Overall the job took me about 3 hours and I’m fairly new to working on my own vehicles.

Great freaking video. Like how he's reading out the size of sockets and tips he gives as he's going along. I gotta replace my knock sensors on my 2004 Silverado and this will definitely help.

This video was precise and well documented and informed. Other video's didn't show the level of detail like this guy does. 5 out of 5 stars

just finished, took about 2 1/2 hours maybe 3. Really simple. Would have been faster but one of the sensors was rusted and I took a few breaks cause of the heatwave. Thank you so much for the video.

It took me just over 5 hours. I stopped for some water breaks but mostly just kept at it. Thank you for a great video! The positive tone in your voice really helped my confidence. I took the laptop to the garage with me and used it to make sure I didn't miss anything, which I did anyway. Duh.... EGR valve wasn't connected snugly.

This video was super helpful. Took ab 4 hours including plugs and wires while it was apart and having to clean the ports and vally was really the only hard part. Having a lift didn't do me any favors either! Great work guys!

Thank you for this video, it helped me immensely. Worth the effort to not pay big bucks for a mechanic to do it for me!

I just did knock sensors on my 2001 2500HD 6.0. This video was super helpful, other than a few minor differences on my truck. My only complaint is you either don’t have the same throttle cable setup or you skipped the part on how to remove them. My truck also has many different sensors and connections, especially around the throttle body. Overall super helpful though

Great video! Just changed my sensors yesterday and this video was a tremendous help! Appreciate the step by step and tips. Took about 3 hours for me. Got a couple estimates for $550-650, then came across your video, and so glad I did.
