The 2018 pro is still the biggest leap i’ve ever seen in ipad versions

I don’t think I will upgrade. Yes the M4 iPad Pro is more powerful, but what am I going to use the extra power and performance for if I just consume content? Yes the M4 iPad Pro is thinner and lighter, but that’s just 20 grams lighter than the 2018 model. I normally just use it inside my own home. Even if I do decide to get the M4 iPad Pro, Apple doesn’t allow you trade in your Magic Keyboard or Apple Pencil and it’s not compatible with the new M4 iPad Pro, meaning you have to spend even more money just to have a extra function row keys and a Apple Pencil which I hardly use. There’s only like 10 triple AAA games on the App Store that only works with the M chip models but those games have bad reviews. The emulation still runs well on the 2018 iPad Pro model.

Just sold my 2018 11" iPad Pro for $400 and got this new m4. For $600 I think it’s well worth the upgrade

I bought the 11 inch iPad Pro with OLED Display. I used it for 6 days indoors and outdoors in bright sunlight didn’t really notice much of a difference between the 11 and my 7 year old 10.5 inch iPad Pro. I used my $1, 100 refund and bought Apple stock so I too could benefit from the suckers that purchase the new products. Just updated my 7 year old iPad Pro to 17.5.1 latest software so I guess I’m good for another 7 years.🤷‍♂️

Fantastic video, really informative. Keep up the good work!

Personally, I upgraded, for the sole reason that I only have 64 GB and this is not cutting it anymore. Otherwise, my 2018 would have been perfectly fine. I did not opt for the new Air, because I couldn't stand downgrading to Touch ID.

I just upgraded to the M4 11inch… but it’s going back. Sure, the OLED screen is great, for lots of things - nice blacks, light parts shine, and some videos and photos look amazing. BUT, two things really annoy me, to the point I find them unacceptable. Firstly, the sound is actually slightly worse than on my 2018 iPad Pro - sounds like tiny speakers inside a tin can (a bit echoey and a bit muffled)… probably because they had to squeeze the speakers into a thinner body (which nobody asked for). Secondly, as a photographer, I don’t appreciate the stupidly rounded corners to the display… apart from losing a small bit of corner real estate, a standard full-frame DSLR photo now clips at every corner as it overlaps the curve - no more clean rectangular images. This is less “pro”… no pro photographer, videographer or designer needs curved corners - it makes zero sense. It was just about okay on the previous models (pro and not pro), but this is just stupid and annoying. Lastly, the extra thinness, once in a case, is irrelevant… and the weight difference is minimal… better to have left it the same (perfectly fine) thickness and squeezed in a larger battery (I can say that I don’t seem to be getting great battery life, but can’t be sure it’s worse than before). I do not know why all the reviews I’ve read ignore the corners issue - this is supposed to be a “pro” device, and those are anything but pro - or is it just me? BTW, the Magic Keyboard is great (if stupidly expensive), but removing the tablet when you want a tablet and not a laptop is too fiddly, especially if you want to transfer it into a case for protection… better to buy a MacBook Air. The MacBook Pro makes all the right design choices for professional users… the iPad Pro does the opposite.

Thanks for great review and comparison. I'm waiting for what they'll bring with a new iPad OS update. Hopefully it will match the progress of hardware.

Before this video, I wasn’t aware of the changes to the front facing camera for video calls. This is a game changer for me since I make lots of video calls with my clients, and the old off center camera was terrible for this. This feature alone (well, along with getting more storage and a newer battery) made me make the jump. This probably isn’t a worthwhile upgrade for other owners or 2018 and up iPad Pros, but the center front camera made it worth the money for me, Thanks for the great and honest video review.

Great video, I would love to see some speed tests of real world things. Like exporting a video from imovie or FCP, or maybe more on thunderbolt port and its benefits. But thanks for this comparospn it was very well done.

The only problem for me is that I only use my iPad Pro with the Smart Keyboard Folio and the new one doesn’t have one… so for me it would actually be a downgrade on that level but I’m going to get the Vision Pro so maybe I won’t even need an iPad anymore 🤷‍♂️😂

New visitor to your site and I found you did a very nice, detailed and real-world comparison. Just what I was looking for as I own a 2018 iPad Pro 12.9.

Good video! I currently have the 2018 iPad Pro but I don't think I'll be upgrading this year. I haven't used an iPad in a long time since I finished school.

Great video. How you only have 415 subscribers (now 416) don’t know. You need to promote your channel more because you’re really good at this. Thanks for the review; you convinced me not to upgrade just yet. My 2018 IPad Pro works just fine when taking notes in meetings, consuming content and email. Apple might have made a mistake by making such a great product in 2018 that there’s no reason to upgrade 6 years later.

I love this review since I have a 2018 Pro and I've been wondering if I should upgrade. Thanks for helping with the decision to upgrade! I had a 12.9" 2018 Pro, but decided to order the 11" M4 Pro. I think the slightly smaller size will be nice for drawing on the go.

I've heard some news how the new ipad sounds tinny compared to the previous ones. Is it true? I'm coming from a 2017 pro and I'm holding back if the speaker rumors are true 😭

I have the 11 Inch iPad Pro and mine has a big cameras in the back so it’s like a 2122 iPad because it has the cameras just like the new iPad

I want to upgrade my 2018 Pro, but I only use it to consume content, less and less each day.
I think I’ll go to apple to replace the battery to make it last a few more years.

do you know if the ipad performance gets slow down if the battery is too old? ( similar to what happens with iphones )
