I’ve been out of school for a little over a year now, and at a GA. Repair station, I am absolutely in love with what I do as a mechanic. Between the diversity of what I get to do/see on a day to day basis, the time I get to spend with my family, and so much more. I just hate that there is no money here unless you are your own boss. It really is a struggle to make ends meet with a family as a GA mechanic. It is an incredible place to start I believe, soon I’ll be moving into the airlines but I will 100% keep GA as a fall back for the future!

15 year veteran, it’s definitely gotten better. If you don’t have a passion for airplanes or working hands on. I suggest looking for another career path because you either Hate it or Love it.

IF YOU are an A&P and want to learn to fly, go to work at a flight school, you can prob work out a deal to pay for your flying
It's a lot better when you can fly what you just worked on

Been in the military contracting side for a bit of time after being active duty. Layoffs happen on contracts, so now going to get my A&P.

Thanks for the info. I'm starting the A&P program in the fall. I'm 26 and decided to make a career change into aviation. Any tips to be successful in school?

ONE of the most interesting jobs out there is ACCIDENT INVESTIGATOR or working for a govt agency such as Sherrifs Dept, Police, Fish and Wildlife or any agency that has aircraft
I think building smaller new aircraft is a great job too ; Cessna, Beechcraft, Hondajet or even experimentals

Thanks for the awesome videos and insight into the industry! I'm 28 going on 29 (next week - X-mas eve wahoo) and I already have a BS, but it was a crappy degree in a crappy college. I'm thinking of going to Lewis as I'm in Chicago and it'd be a pretty short drive. It's really interesting to hear that you can get your A&P w/o a 4-yr degree, but I feel like if I went to Lewis, I'd get a pretty thorough education and set myself up for success instead of just throwing money at the wall for certs... If anyone has any thoughts, I'm all ears! The more info I have, the better decisions I can make for myself.

I love the content, I’m looking to get into the field and I have been researching and haven’t found anything as in depth as this is. My only change I might make is the clips you insert(how much there are), but if you see you get better views with the clips then by all means keep it. I’ll still watch

Remember brown nosing backstabbing, and asskissing is very important to an A&P.

I've been a licensed A&P for 29 years. I've worked in the aviation industry for approximately 12 years. I've worked in several different sides of aviation maintenance, and most of it was rebuilding and complete restoration of classic heavy twins. I couldn't justify staying in it because I couldn't make the money that I wanted to make, so I went into a different trade. I really enjoyed the work, but you'd think a person working on airplanes would be able to make a little more than the guy thats working on your car ! But I never saw anywhere that even came close. And thats sad !

It is not hard to make over 100k a year in any major airlines even you just get into the door, doing 1 day overtime a week will do.

Too many memes but some decent information!
Came from the military and I can say for certain that the experience is great but the quality of education and maintenance knowledge is definitely lacking. At the same time I will always recommend it to anyone who doesn’t have any experience in aviation but wants to find a place to start.

Looking into my future. I love working mechanically and want to peruse that in the field of aviation, but I dont have a good network to know what the best option is. I'm not able to join the military which is the route I would have preferred. Would you recommend school and then a job or an apprenticeship. Ive been thinking school because I want to have the option to flex a degree when looking at moving up in the career, but I understand that isnt always the right choice.
