Recollections vary here. Macron didn't originally say said he wanted to send NATO troops into Ukraine, he was talking about sending French troops into Ukraine. Big difference. And he didn't intend to send French troops to fight, but to perform logistical support. How did this get so twisted that the story has morphed into "he wants to send NATO troops into Ukraine?" CLICKBAIT. Pure and simple. "NATO boots on the ground." sounds far more juicy than French troops helping out with logistics, freeing up the Ukrainian military to fight.
