My family jokingly calls that fatigue "fresh air poisoning"

If you take a too hot shower, you get that same exhausted feeling when you're finished.

A common, old-time rhetorical question (translated from Italian) that's asked when someone has obviously had plenty of sun is,
"Did the Sun slap you around?"

THANK YOU! I've always said that being out in the sun is exhausting and people look at me like I'm crazy. So glad to hear it's not just me and that there are some really good reasons, actually.

As someone with chronic illness and fatigue this is validating. I always wondered why sunny days would lay me out.

Something I discovered digging ditches in Phoenix in the summertime while doing a Ramadan fast: If you keep your shirt wet all the time, the wet shirt keeps you cool enough that you don't have to sweat while you're working. I had to dunk my shirt in a bucket of water, every 45 minutes to keep it wet, but I never busted a sweat at that job. And by the end of the 10-hour shift, I wasn't even tired and could have gone even longer than everybody else who had been sweating and drinking gallons of Gatorade all day and we're exhausted and spent the end of the day.

This makes so much sense! I have chronic fatigue and the summer makes it worse. Somehow I never connected that the heat might be making my body use more energy. Brilliant video!

It’s crazy that my 101 year old grandma when I was lil I asked her why I was tired I didn’t do anything after playing at the beach . She said your body has been fighting the heat and you lost a lot of water when sweating so now your body is shutting you down so you can rest and recover . Gave us her special tea that will always makes us feel like a million bucks . It has lots of vitamins and minerals. She also advocated to allow your body to sleep and rest when it was needed. She said that that is how you get sick . In their own way they knew what was happing

I love feeling tired after a sun day. Means I'm going to sleep well that night.

I have POTS, so I get an up front view of the additional stress on your heart it causes. I do not thermoregulate well, and when it's hot, my heart rate can be in the 150s while sitting around doing nothing. It makes my chest hurt and makes me want to sleep for a week.

Basically: "My heart had to push all this blood through my body. I am so tired now..."

That sleep session after laying in the sun is on another level.

Almost all of this applies to cold weather as well but with dehydration being more from lower consumption than sweating and shivering/chemical are the energetic processes draining you.

An important note: if sweating for extensive periods of time, you'll want to supplement your water electrolytes. Runners can get entire packs of salt on their from long runs. You can lose massive amounts of salts.

No one talks about how incredible our bodies are. This is fascinating.

I’m so glad I’ve found this out now. I thought I was just being sensitive but I’m avoiding sitting out in the sun for ages from now on, I am very pale but it’s just not worth the fatigue and headaches at this point
