I had minor fire in my home once (hot water heater). I grabbed 2 things on my way out the door: My phone to call the Fire Dept. and my cat. Pure instinct.

*The animals were not left behind on purpose. The fire started Tuesday 1/7 at 10:30AM. Many people were at work, and those who were home evacuated with their pets. The high winds made the fire spread quickly, anyone who attempted to go back for their pets were not allowed in by the police. Saw video of a man crying and begging to be let in to get to his cat. Fortunately, his home and cat were spared.*

I’m sure 90% of these owners loved their pets but they were maybe at work or out running errands when the fire started. It happened so fast there would have been no way to go back in many cases. Especially for areas hit on day one .

I cannot imagine the emotional stress of the pet owners who may not have been home when the fires ravaged their neighborhood!!! How terrifying for those poor fur babies! It’s incredible these rescuers were able to go in and do their best to rescue these poor animals! Hope they will be reunited with their families again soon! I would be a mess not knowing where my pets are, are they alive, are they safe??? Oh my!! My heart goes out to everyone involved

All shelters who have taken in animals need to have a website where pictures can be viewed for those looking to see if they survived. People at work may have not been allowed back into neighberhoods that had been evacuated.

I can’t imagine the fear that most pet owners had knowing that their pet is still at home, and they had no way of going back.
A lot of people were probably out working or running errands, and considering that the flow of traffic would be heavy with everyone leaving, it would be hard to drive against it with not only the fires in the way but also the police rerouting the roads or stopping people from going back.
I can only hope for the best for these pets and to the owners themselves.
