Love seeing Shapechange get some love. It's one of my favourite 9th level spells, but it often gets overshadowed by Wish or True Polymorph.

Yes! I am a DM who built an antagonist around this where the party thought she was originally a marilith but was actually a female human wizard that could cast that spell into that iconic form she is infamous for. So when the party thought she killed her I simply described what happened when you drop to 0 hp from shapechange and said, “welcome to stage 2 of this boss fight” as she begun to cast blade of disaster.

This is easily avoided by never having your players encounter a marilith. Shapechange only lets you turn into creatures you’ve seen before.
