I started playing drop in badminton for the first time at the age of 31 about 5 months ago at my local community center and am having an absolute blast. I am planning on starting lessons next month, but in the mean time I've been watching your videos and practicing a lot of the tips you give. The other day while playing doubles against two players who were definitely better than me. I generally smash it whenever its above my head (one of my few skills I think I do well and win points off of) but remembered back to this video and decided to mix a drop shot in. I lined up like I was going to smash and then hit it softer to the front. To my surprise- it completely fooled them and we won the point. Thank you from a total amateur in Canada for all these videos you're making, you're helping make badminton more accessible to everyone!

many excellent points in this tutorial, including jen's point that the drop shot prep and swing is essentially same as clear and smash, greg's point about hip rotation and that 'we dont practice the simple things often enough'. one comment i would make is that like the smash and even the clear, the drop shot's effectiveness is greatly enhanced with jumping as high as possible making contact with the shuttle early and as close as possible to the highest point in its trajectory. and yes, there are quite a few ways of hitting a drop shot, and i'd love to see these covered in a more advanced video

Loved this tutorial, a lot of times my drops aren't low enough and they get punished a lot. This video really helps. Can you guys please do one on slice drops or just slice shots in general? Would love that tutorial to help expand my arsenal of shots. Many thanks.
