I love this video. I have been researching my options, and this has helped me to rethink some of my preconceived notions and the mentality of being fearful, which is often what the medical field trains us to be in.

I had a 5 hour kidney surgery plus a week in the hospital in ho chi min city. Great hospital for under $4000

We re-evaluate our needs with every trip. It sure was a lot easier when we were in our 20s/30s/40s and premiums were cheap!

Great topic! Wife and I have been traveling for eight years. All of our medical/dental care has been out of pocket, no worries. You clearly point out that Health Care is a service people buy and Health Insurance is what you buy when you're afraid you can't afford Health Care.

So... maybe that thought process should at least be considered before handing an insurance company thousands of dollars a year.

Glad I watched your video. Thanks

Your information is a great one. I rarely subscribe or follow travel bloggers. Your posting is very genuine. Thank you and hope to run in to you somewhere outside of the U.S.

By the way if you are traveling in end of May through June in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand or South Korea. do feel free to reach out. My husband (Frankie) and I (Tia) we are planning of doing many trips starting this year.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve only covers $2, 500 Medical. Not enough to rely on.

Thanks for all the great info! I;ve seen other videos talking about the great medical care in Kuala Lumpur. Really liked the way you shopped for the doctor and checked out the stem cell lab. Excellent!

Quick question... In your video describing your knee surgery you said your total out of pocket was about $8, 000 and you filed insurance. You said your IMG policy (we have the same) has a $5, 000 deductible but it paid about 75%. Those numbers don't seem to add up. Am I missing simething?

Thanks for another great video. I agree 100%. I never buy international medical insurance, too expensive for what you get and as you said, you are probably better off just paying out of pocket for medical expenses. However, there are a few countries that still require medical insurance to foreign visitors to enter the country (i.e. Uruguay) How do you fulfill the requirement in those cases? I usually try to buy the cheapest insurance with the highest deductible.

At 77 we can’t find insurance travel or medical so we fly by the seat of our pants. Not staying home because I am covered there only.

I totally agree . For some reason in the US everyone thinks that all other countries have a lower medical quality . I came from the UK where "God bless national health" .Where medical is FREE.
Plus people coming from the Uk to other countries pay MUCH less for their Insurance than the US. Which I don't understand.

For over 65 it pays to stick with cash, but available prescriptions medications are an important element.

Did you have single trip insurance? How long term did they allow you to purchase for ie 6 months, 1 year? FYI prices go up significantly after you turn 70..

In the Philippines, they won't take care of you until you pay or show insurance

Great info, thank you. I am currently researching my options at age 79 soon to be 80 ! I have the CHASE Sapphire Reserve, But will it be sufficient to cover the legal requirement for the Schengen visa? My Medicare Advantage covers global emergencies internationally but have not put it to the test. I would feel more comfortable with a nomad policy as I am planning on a year long trip around the world. My travel agent offered a policy for about $8 per day up to age 84. What do you think.I still have to read the fine print ! As Rick Steves says "Keep on traveling".

Sorry for my confusion. Is that two hundred dollars a year for both of you or two hundred dollars a month for both of you.

I've traveling to the Dominican Republic for a week. Should I get some kind of medical travel insurance?

Curious if you found a solution for this - my wife & I live in Mexico and we don't have insurance here because the costs of healthcare is very affordable and high quality. But periodically we return to the USA to see our daughter, and it scares the S#$t out of me if we got sick there. Any thoughts on finding some coverage that only handles catastrophic care in the USA, because we would (by choice) fly back to Mexico for surgeries, etc. if we are able to.

Looking at IMG’s site when I quote the Global Bronze plan for two of us without US coverage I too see 214/mo (without dental and vision).

I guess with a plan like that you get a short term policy when you’re spending a few weeks in the US? If you don’t mind me asking, who’s your go to for something like that?
