Considering what era of writing we were in for this, there's like a 0% chance it was intentional. But we can still appreciate it anyway

Always thought the same thing. Like did Sonic just prove that he’s a lot stronger since Adventure or was this added because Chaos was a boss in the Adventure era.

As unlikely as it may be, i always took it as sonic getting stronger as time goes on, considering he learns this boost move that just straight up allows him to blow through enemies by simply running faster

"Unlike machines I can grow, I get stronger every second" that should answer your question

Something that I do remember hearing is that the whole design of chaos in gens is what he was supposed to look like adventure but the technology wasn’t there yet so to finally realize the vision they put chaos in this game so the fact he’s just base form probably wasn’t intentional but was instead just cause it wasn’t the final boss

In sonic forces, he mentioned he gets stronger after every battle

I think SEGA retconned it to be the case, because in Sonic Forces Sonic Sez "Unlike Mechs, I can Grow" which implies that Sonic gets Stronger every game. (Btw Love your Vids! Keep it Up!)

I dont like it when people say Sonic is now stronger than past Super Sonic. I always took it as Sonic could always just beat up Chaos but why would it matter because Chaos would always be angry. Thus Sonic chose to purify him as Super Sonic with the positive power of the emerlads.

Tikal even demands that they seal Chaos in the master emerald immediately, but Sonic declines for the very reason that Chaos would never be cured.

However here in generations, Sonic takes no issue in just pummelling chaos. Tho lets be real, this is just a gameplay thing.

I think it is just a case of the game mechanics of Generations working with this boss fight. The fact that it’s been established for as long as boost Sonic has been around that he can boost across water, he’s never been able to float or traverse on the surface of water in the pre-boost area except as Super Sonic, or in specific scenarios

As someone who's never finished Adventure 1 BIG THE
I like the idea of Sonic showing Perfect Chaos that he's stronger then he was before, the intro makes it feel like that with him standing and watching Perfect Chaos formed, it's cool

I always took it as a mix of Sonic knowing his weak spot, and the fight happening before Chaos drained the Chaos Emerald's energy.

To be fair, since adventure he has fought and defeatwd multiple god like beings and other sorts of villains without super sonic(which is his most powerful form)

Honestly my take is that they added Perfect Chaos for both of those reasons

My head Canon that is the super forms works kinda like SSG in that it gives the user a power boost and after it ends the user will hold on to some of the power from the super form

In Universe it's because Sonic has gotten stronger, but it's obvious that around this time they used Chaos just because he was from Adventure.

My head cannon is that it’s not just that he’s a lot stronger since Adventure, but that Super Sonic was needed in order to neutralize Chaos’ negative energy in order to save him from himself, which is what Sonic wanted. In Generations, that’s not a factor. He just needs to beat him, so he doesn’t need Super anymore

He also fought the Egg dragoon without being a werehog. I thought that was pretty clear

The design of Perfect Chaos, as he appears in Sonic Generations, is roughly how they wanted him to look in Sonic Adventure, but Sonic Team had to scale it back due to the Sega Dreamcast's limitations.

it said so in an official guide somewhere

I didnt think too hard it. I just thought the remix was sick and happy to get a remake of that boss fight. How detailed chaos is, the boost formula, what a time to be alive.
