Neymar is such a strange player to look into because he has overachieved and underachieved at the same time. He became a superstar instantly. His skills in Santos and his years in Barcelona with the deadliest attacking trio ever, together with his production made him one of the best in the world at such a quick rate and made him a superstar in anywhere in the world at such a fast and huge rate that nobody could have predicted. And when you look at him, you say he is the best in the world but when you look into his potential and how talented he is, you look into the last 5 years and say how he could have been much better and also how injuries stopped him to a degree. When we look at 2015, he was still a very young player which was mentioned as one of the best in the world. After Messi and Ronaldo, we were talking about Neymar being the best player in the world together with Neuer, Ramos and Suarez. And in 2016 he really looked like he was the next in line. The next big thing that would takeover the world after Messi and Ronaldo and lead the next era but he really didn’t. Somehow, he has fallen a bit. He is still a star but we don’t look at him the same way we did a couple years back. He was suppose to takeover right now as the best player in the world, be the face of teams, winning awards left and right. Instead, he has become an elite player which is amazing but we don’t look at him and say that he can be the best player in a team while making that team a juggernaut just by himself. And the biggest disrespect to his legacy could be that his young teammate has become the very thing he was and looks like he could do what Neymar couldn’t. Mbappe is not the best player in the world right now but he is in the top 10 right now and looks to be the face of the league in a couple years. Neymar is a great player but we will always question whether he maximized his ability and talent on the court. He is kind of like the Kyrie of football. He is a delight to watch on court but injuries have kept him off the court a lot and we looked at him as the next big thing while he was a young superstar that played with the best in the world and he never was a bad player but he never peaked the way we thought he would after his early success with the best player in the world and we all look at them leaving their former team to lead his own team as a little disappointing.
