you cant pull the same trick twice in a generation and expect the sequel to sell as good as the original.

One game has been out for 8yrs and sold 33m. The other has sold 21m and been out for a year.

RGT still doesn’t know that Metroid dread sold over 3 million copies, huh?

It's also a sequel. Exhibit A, FF7 Rebirth. The honeymoon phase is real, and it dies off in sequels. Ppl had that nostalgia for BOTW and FF7R, but when the sequels came out, that phase has ended and the "lovers" come back to buy the sequel.

What you're not factoring in is tears of the kingdom is only one year old where breath of the wild is 7 years old

I felt I was playing breath of the wild ALL over again. I stopped playing after 10 hours and never went back.

Another thing you didn’t factor in was the price difference between both games. Some people legit didn’t buy TOTK because it was $70.

A lot of miss information out there, with many complaining it was a $70 dlc. 20 million sold is incredible none the less and Microsoft and Sony would love to have a game sell anywhere near that.

TOTK asked me to do so many things that felt more like work than fun that I just gave up on it. But I will say I am genuinely proud of my son for finishing it at 7 years old.

I love both, but I'll be honest. The underworld in TOTK was underwhelming to me, and I did not enjoy wandering around in the dark for hours.

I dropped TotK halfway through because I had already beaten BotW 3 times at that point and didn't feel like beating it for a 4th time.

There was something magical playing BOTW for the first time coming out that cave and seeing the world. TOTk just felt like I was carrying on. It literally is botw with extra steps

BOTW has been selling for 8 years and TOTK has only been selling for 2... also I think that the majority who buy TOTK are those who enjoyed BOTW... if you bought BOTW but never finished it I don't think you want to buy TOTK... It not makes sense to compare the sales of the two... TOTK is for hardcore BOTW players that wanted more...

I haven’t completed TOTK yet, I preferred the simplicity of BOTW personally

Echoes of Wisdom, which I'm looking forward to, isn't doing close to 12m sold. 4-6m sold is more likely. However, I will say if this surprises and does for 2D Zelda what BotW did for 3D Zelda, then maybe it could get there.

I want old Zelda back, Link to The Past, Ocarina of Time style. Great stories, memorable bosses and most of all dungeons that were fun!! Open world was ok but it's so stale now, they got it right with the original Zelda on NES, that was a game, challenging and mysterious...no hand holding!!! Hope the next big title doesn't go the way of the Final Fantasy series where they got lost in what made Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy for so long.

Imagine comparing a game sales that's been out for 1 year compared to a game that's been out for 7 years +

Wow. YouTube actually removed my comments about how Botw was released *7 Years Ago* at 31 million units sold, while TotK came out *Last Year* and already did 2/3 of that. Like do y’all understand basic math?

Also who’s deleting my comments here?

Botw was also a system launcher but it was also just a better game design in my opinion .. like in the beginning where we rolled a boulder onto the enemies and I feel like the gameplay was more intimate than it was in totk
