Devastating floods kill at least 59 and leave millions stranded in Bangladesh and India

The monsoon storms triggered lightning strikes and landslides, while swollen rivers burst their banks, submerging homes under the floodwaters - and with many transport links cut off, the army has been drafted in to help rescue those who are still trapped.

Officials in the worst hit areas described the situation as "grim".

This is one of the largest flood/humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh. 9 million people! That’s not even exact. There is more. We have been trying to contact our family and friends in the Sylhet Region - Sunamganj for the past 3 days. Unfortunately we cannot get through to them. We’re all in the dark. When I was a little girl there was one of the worst and deadliest floods here in Northern California that began a few minutes after midnight on Christmas Eve the 24th of December in the year of 1955. I can still clearly remember seeing nothing but farmlands covered by water as far as I the eye could see while my father was driving our old Pontiac sedan on the tops of these levees since the roads were under water. We were going to get my Aunt Nellie and my Cousin Raymond who had to be evacuated from their house because of the flood. At least 600 people were rescued by helicopter from the small town of Yuba City, California BUT unfortunately at least 38 people lost their lives by drowning in the flood waters. Also, numerous farm animals as well as people's pets couldn't escape from the floodwaters and were killed by them. In addition, hundreds of homes and other structures were totally devastated. Because of this historic Yuba City or Sutter County 1955 Christmas Eve Flood the decision was made to build a dam on the Feather River. That dam was built, and it's one of the tallest in the United States, and the name of it is the Oroville Dam.
One other personal event I want to share is that after I had completed attending third grade in Elementary School my childhood home became a victim of a flood. Our family lived in a small town also located in Northern California, but approximately 30 miles Southeast of where the great flood of 1955 happened, but also used a lot for farming, and most of that was dairy. Anyway, my parents were forced to buy a new home since the house was declared completely destroyed by the floodwaters.

I worked as a post-disaster mental health associate. In situations like this, people often say the first thing they need is a shower and a change of clothes. It's so dehumanizing to be covered in mud and dirt. That was a very unexpected lesson for me.

Heavy rains have not started in Bangladesh yet this year. The main cause of this flood is water coming from India. Bangladesh has to pay a huge trouble for their safety . If they had opened their dam slowly, Bangladesh might not have suffered such a loss.

Assam and Meghalaya are two Indian states which are submerged under water due to heavy flooding. We are also affected and this happening because China has opened it flood gate and Now India's North eastern part is being heavily affected.

Building TOILETS & learn how to use it & growing the concept of indoor plumbing 2.
