I‘m German and I wouldn’t exactly say we hate small talk. It very much depends on the situation and who’s talking to you. We might not talk to people on a train or bus but at the farmers market it’s always nice to chat and even exchange recipes spontaneously. In general I would say we’re more open to small talk during leisure activities like hiking, in the zoo, in a museum or gallery, while at a sports event etc. 💜

How do Europeans make new friends or are their friendship groups purely limited to membership? Do you think this is because of the impact of secret police?
What do europeans talk about with each other? Is it purely business, romance, conspiracy to take over the continent, etc?

In sweden we call it "cold talk" and most people really do hate it. I don't even get why it's still a thing at this point, to be honest.
