Wabi sabi lets you grow old and not worry about wrinkles and beauty. As long as you are doing something of value, like an old farm tractor that is worn with use. I like the concept of Kintsugi, it is better to repair than to replace.

Before my son died he found a mosaic tile of the ocean and fish on it while the family was on our very first family vacation on Hutchinson Island. It had been tossed out because one corner was broken. We brought it home. You gave me a whole new way to look at it wow. I feel this way in my life the brokenness, crakes that I have in my soul are beautiful and meaningful wow thank you for helping me see this not only about things around us but myself.

Make me realize that there is beauty in imperfection. Embrace it.
I'm planning to watch 1 video of you a day to slow down my life. I am overwhelmed with work, school, YouTube, websites...I had to maintain a lot of things. I will come here daily for a pause and leave my daily insights. Thank you.💕💐

Edit: And the comment section is full of wisdom and insights, too. Love it so much!

Wabi sabi, the quintessential Japanese design aesthetic, is quickly gaining popularity around the world, as evidenced by recent articles in Time, The Chicago Tribune and Kyoto Journal. Taken from the Japanese words wabi, which translates to less is more, and sabi, which means attentive melancholy, wabi sabi refers to an awareness of the transient nature of earthly things and a corresponding pleasure in the things that bear the mark of this impermanence. As a design style, wabi sabi helps us to appreciate the simple beauty in imperfection--of a chipped vase or a rainy day, for example.

Thanks for this video, Sophie! It’s wonderful.

While I'm somewhat familiar/practiced with Zen and have heard of Wabi Sabi, it has not been a philosophy I’ve applied to my life. Having seen Wabi Sabi tied to photography in a video I watched (just yesterday), I realized this has such relevance to how I want to live my life – but it wasn’t particularly clear to me how to proceed. So, it was especially good fortune that (just today) I found and watched this video of yours.

Thank you this inspiration!

I didn't know what Wabi-sabi was 6 months ago. I believe some of my understanding may be an ever evolving understanding of the concept but my core values and desire to consume less and appreciate things for what they are lead me to this video. Thank you for your personal insight on Wabi-sabi and what it means to you. Beautiful and authentic. ❤

Thank you so much for enlightening me with this concept of Wabi Sabi. Im always looking for perfection in everything, even in myself... and maybe thats why Im incomplete and unhappy, deep inside. I MUST learn to love and live with my imperfections, I will watch all your videos and Im sure I will be a happier and more accepting person. God bless you

This concept is what attracted me to Japan and decided to call it my home.
Wabi originally meant "sadness, apology"
And Sabi originally meant "rust, decay"

It is those low, dark moments, the imperfect, where you find beauty.

Another saying in buddhism that I like is "Shogyo-mujo" all things are impermanent.

Thank you for this video. My heart felt such peace while I watched. Wabi sabi is a term that only came into my life last week. Your energy helped my spirit.

I enjoy your videos, sharing these interesting ideas. Something that comes to my mind of my favorite accidental masterpiece. In a former home, in the corner of the living room I sat an old wicker basket I found inside that old home I was moving into, it was shaped like a jug or vase, but made of wicker. As I kept thinking of how to implement it into my decor, I had bought some peacock feathers and just as a place to keep them away from our cat, I placed them into the top of this wicker basket. Suddenly I loved looking at this piece of decor that had an accidental beginning, but was so beautiful for my eyes to gaze upon. I think of this as Wabi Sabi now that you have taught me this🌺!
