To me wabi-sabi is a feeling of kindness towards my own or other people's imperfections. As a psychologist this is an important trait to develop in my opinion. I am a huge fan of your channel.

I'd heard of 'Wabi Sabi' as a teen, but didn't pay it much mind. I was bit of a perfectionist, so I didn't realise how imperfections can be seen as beautiful and dismissed the idea as something that is not for me. As I grew older and started to accept that everything around me is imperfect, I realised that the desire for perfection, the need to do everything perfectly gave me a lot of anxiety and many times held me back from making that first step. I also realised that the flaws in something, including people, give them character and make them unique.
I used to wish that I could preserve a beautiful moment, but there's serenity in accepting that things change and will continue changing. That it's okay that we are living in this moment, and it doesn't have to last.
I don't know if I've understood the concept or the philosophy behind it better, but I'll look more into it and try to implement it in my life. I think it'll add to my life.
Thank you for this video and your book recommendations.

For me, Wabi Sabi means finding the beauty in the imperfect. It’s an old, faded t-shirt. A slightly-burned, homemade dish. It’s that old desk passed down to you from your mother or grandmother. It’s appreciating what you have and looking at its dings and dents as masks of character, not blots to be removed or ignored.

The way I see it, wabi sabi and minimalism are connectable in that the more you embrace imperfections, the more you will be happy with what you have instead of constantly buying more and/or newer things. No, these shoes are not perfect, but they are good enough.

From what I have read, nobody can really explain Wabi Sabi. And interestingly enough, most of the books about Wabi Sabi seem to be written by westerners while Japanese themselves tend to all agree that they understand the concept of WS without being able to explain it. It seems to me that WS relates a lot with Chinese Taoism in the sense of letting things happen, accepting the concept of non-being, non-existence as the natural way of life and trying to cease the moment in an aesthetic point of view : and by ceasing the moment, I mean trying to find the beauty of it, cause after all, Wabi Sabi is still a quest of beauty, whatever we can find it for a second or one hour, that is still roughly what we are looking for. Also, the fact that WS has been used in the tea ceremony and by extension, in the designs of the tea rooms themselves is interesting in the way that long time ago, businesses were conducted in these very places, which brings me to question any business strategy purposes that could have been linked to WS.
Anyway, just my thoughts. Thanks for your videos.

Thank you very much for sharing! It's rare to find someone not just talking about the aesthetics part of wabi-sabi.

Valuable concept.

Things cannot remain static. An animal, a company, a nation, a culture, a religion--they can either be growing, or or shrinking/fading. Trying to stay the same state, the same size is as impossible as balancing on a knife edge. Sameness is inherently unstable.

This is a great concept. I too always liked imperfect things. For an example when I apply nail polish, I let it wear out eventually until it disappears. I love to see the patterns it creates while fading away, which I will never be able creat intentionally. I used to think this trait of me is weird. But now it makes so much sense. Thank you so much for this video. I am already a beginner minimalist and I'm going to embrace wabi sabi into my life now 💚

Recommendation for future video: Explore the relationship to, and similarities between, the approach to life informed by the feeling of wabi-sabi and its viewpoint–to the way that the Buddha recommended we approach life.
Many of the things you talk about here are of primary concern for anyone who wants to follow in the path of the Buddhist traditions, i.e.–impermanence, non-attachment, awareness of how things really are and seeing clearly.

Man, I know I said it yesterday on another video but your cinematography style is fantastic. What a beautiful video. This channel will blow up!

Anyway to make a video for other videographers on your methods?
