hey, Katrina! underground tunnels, caves, rooms, whatever are pretty cool. warm in winter, cool in summer, great places to live. if you don't mind the creepy crawlies and such. fun to explore, tho. Cappadocia has more than the one underground city, but Derinkuyu is the best preserved. would love to wander in there. fun post, Kat! bye!

There is a maze of tunnels under Tacoma, Steillacoom, and Astoria Oregon as well that are said to be "Shanghai" tunnels, however many historians doubt that reason for them for pure practicality and attribute them to the anti-Chinese riots in 1885 that happened first in Tacoma, then Seattle, Steillacoom and Astoria, and it is thought that the tunnels were dug by them. There is an opening in the bottom of the building at 949 market street that I have pictures of as we were the first to open it up in MANY years.
