Witches are real, and they are everywhere! 🐀

Watch the official trailer for #TheWitchesMovie, starring Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, and Stanley Tucci.

From Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis (“Forrest Gump”) comes the fantasy adventure “Roald Dahl’s The Witches.” The film stars Oscar winners Anne Hathaway (“Les Misérable,” “Ocean’s 8”) and Octavia Spencer (“The Help,” “The Shape of Water”), Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci (“The Hunger Games” films, “The Lovely Bones”), with Kristin Chenoweth (TV’s “Glee” and “BoJack Horseman”) and award-winning comedy legend Chris Rock. Newcomer Jahzir Kadeem Bruno (TV’s “Atlanta”) also stars, alongside Codie-Lei Eastick (“Holmes & Watson”).

Reimagining Dahl’s beloved story for a modern audience, Zemeckis’s visually innovative film tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy (Bruno) who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma (Spencer) in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch (Hathaway) has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe—undercover—to carry out her nefarious plans.

Based on the book by Roald Dahl, the screenplay is by Robert Zemeckis & Kenya Barris (TV’s “black-ish,” “Shaft”) and Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro (“The Shape of Water”). Zemeckis is also producing, alongside Jack Rapke, del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón and Luke Kelly. Serving as executive producers are Jacqueline Levine, Marianne Jenkins, Michael Siegel, Gideon Simeloff and Cate Adams.

Zemeckis’s behind-the-scenes team includes a roster of his frequent collaborators, including Oscar-nominated director of photography Don Burgess (“Forrest Gump”), production designer Gary Freeman, editors Jeremiah O’Driscoll and Ryan Chan, Oscar-nominated costume designer Joanna Johnston (“Allied,” “Lincoln”), and Oscar-nominated composer Alan Silvestri (“Polar Express,” “Forrest Gump”).

When the special effects of a film made 30 years ago hold up better than effects in a film that's still yet to be released

Lazy CGI is an insult to audiences. I’m sick of it. Remember Jumanji back in the 90s?!? That stampede! It’s still impressive! Twister, The Mummy, Jurassic Park. They all still look great because care went into the effects.

These creamy looking creations take you out of what looks like a fun story.

...doesn’t this prove why CGI can never beat practical FX?

Rowan Atkinson was so much better as the hapless hotelier.

This looks like it doesn't hold a candle to the original.

The narration from Chris Rock is totally distracting.

Who else watched the original movie 30+ times as a kid 🙋Been waiting so see this trailer ever since I heard the rumors and was worried the world situation would have delayed it. Should I do a grand witch Halloween makeup tutorial?

If so which look?

Totally getting Cruella de Vil vibes on Anne Hathaways first look.
Will definitely need to do a grand witch halloween makeup tutorial!

If nothing else, this trailer is far better than the American one. I still think changing the setting wasn't needed. But if the film leaves them all mice, that is a point to this film. And I hope Rowan Atkinson has a cameo in this film.

My Positives:
+Anne Hathaway and Octavia Spencer :D
+The costumes and colors look gorgeous

My Negatives
-I don't know if I care for Chris Rock narrating as who I'm assuming to be a future version of the protag. I like Chris for his comedy, not so much his voice.
-Did they add a female child/mouse? I'm kind of worried they added her just to be a potential love interest for the protag and won't really flesh her out...
-I don't hate CGI but the special effects from the 90s movie were so good and iconic, it's a shame they didn't/couldn't emulate them, if not in practice, at least in looks.

EDIT: So I looked it up and the white mouse is going to be played by Kristian Chenoweth, which is good because that means she's probably not going to be a love interest but I still have to wonder why they added her...

I honestly like this original take and setting. My only gripe is that the effects look too childish for the witches to be taken as threats. Plus this trailer really spoils the highlights of the film and novel. It's meant to evoke a sense of childhood terror to offset the comical characters, much like a fairytale. Just seems to be playing it too safe for me.

The original movie was suspenseful and frightening. As was the book. That was the best part! This seems to focus more on the comedy.

The book and original movie are classics and a childhood favorite. I imagined the main character as myself and my late Grams. To see them now resemble me(us)... WOW I'm still recovering from the rush of emotions that I just experienced. I will add this to my collection of the book and original Movie(dvd). 👵🏾🧒🏾🐀🐁🐈‍⬛

I feel less afraid of this than the traumatizing original... and yes I’m in my mid 20s and still terrified of that movie.

Looks like they went overboard with the American cheese on this one.

Looks really good fun, plus Robert Zemeckis writing it with people like Kenya Barris and Guillermo Del Toro, got to be something unique.

Probably a fun watch for kids but this doesn't seem scary at all, not like the older adaption.
