Hi Tao’s reaction hit me hard. She has to bury one of her closest friends. One of the few people that didn’t avoid her and call her crazy, psycho, or creepy. Other people will see this and be completely shocked that this death caused a reaction. After all she didn’t cry when her grandfather died, in fact she smiled. So to see her come apart like this will most likely change peoples idea about her. This reaction shows just how much Aether meant to Hu Tao.

honestly, I think a lot of the characters wouldn't affect each other that much, for example Hutao, she would be affected, but I imagine her at the Aether's funeral smiling, then she would go in the place between the living and the dead to see if Aether had regrets . all characters would be affected, some many, others few, I myself think Xiao would hardly be affected, he has already taken countless lives, lost companions, lives with a huge burden, can take his life at any time, I don't think Aether's death would shake him so much. The same goes for Zhongli, and the other Archons, both of whom have lived a long time, Aether would be a promising young man who unfortunately passed away before teyvat mark with his long history

but I think Ayaka would be affected a lot, Aether was by far one of her closest friends, and also one of the only ones, she would probably cry and lose her composure, she would be thinking that she wanted to spend more time with him

Now imagine:
All of them. What if Xiao didn’t catch the body? What if it got lost in sea? Imagine how devastated everyone would be not being able to do the least and bury him. Imagine it. Now how much sadder would it be, if— years later, Aether didn’t really die and just fell asleep again, washing upon the shores of Liyue or Monstadt. Imagine that. Nobody tending to his body thinking its a hallucination after all these years, just guilt catching up to haunt them. He wakes up, only remembers the fall, but he wakes up in the abyss, with his crying sister. She persuaded him to join her, saying that they failed him. They were together now.
Imagine how it would be, seeing the two march into each nation and destroy it with their abyssal army. All the people would regret it even more, as they didn’t tend to him. They just left him there.

In my oppinion i feel like Xiao, Bennett, Childe, Paimon and Lumine ones are the saddest ones

Imagine Paimon blaming herself for not being able to protect him. Then she decides that she'll do what Aether tried to do from the very beginning, find Lumine. Paimon trains very hard, using her skills of vanishing and floating and finally picking up a weapon. And then in the game, we continue, but with a strong Paimon as the main character.

Tbh there is quite a few people who would actually break down from the Travelers death. This is gonna be long bear with me!!

[MILD SPOILERS AHEAD]

Kokomi - She literally writes in her journal that she always waits our return, and she is more than delighted to see us every time. She'd take it really hard if we were to be gone.
Ayaka - Dont need to tell this one. Its obvious, if we were to die, im pretty sure she would loose it, and would need considerable amount of time to process it.
Fischl/Bennett - Youre one of the only friends of Fischl. True friend. Cos she has either 3 or 4, us included. Bennett literally cant believe we dont care about his misfortune, basically we are almost role model to him. They would both take it extremely hard if we were to perish. Probably never recover or leave a scar on them for good.
Venti - He would be done. And i think he wouldnt show himself anymore, and just drink away all his problems.
Childe - Im pretty sure he would swear revenge, and die doing it. Its pretty clear after his family. We are the 2nd one in the line. He trusts us unconditionally, and invited us to his home.( a possible enemy, he trusts us this much)
Xiao - You are the special someone for him. He pleads you to take him to Liyue harbor. He is willing to change eons of pain and burden, for you. Gave you his own summon. If we were to perish his descent to complete darkness is enveloped.
BONUS CHARACTERS!!! Bonus, because its not clear and diect from the lore and story about their feelings but i have a knack about them.
Ei - I swear if we would die, she would go through hell back and back to kill the bastard who killed us. We are her conduit for change. We saved her from herself. We made it possible for her that she finally came to peace with herself. We literally done so much for her, and even though she doesnt outright show it, im sure it means a great deal to her.
Yae Miko - Hear me out on this one. She had it pretty rough. Her friend closed of herself for centuries. Her mentor Kitsune Saiguu basically rotted away to filth and she doesnt know it... most of her yokai kin died aswell(new story quest). She never wanted to be a Guuji. Basically she had nobody for centuries aside from occasional visits from Ganyu, and Zhongli. And because of this she hates to be bored. She loves excitement, things bubbling with life and basically we were the ones who brought this back for her. During her quest its painfully obvious she drags us all the way setting up her ritual because it means a lot to her that we are doing this together. But she is shrewd so she will never tell you directly. Thats the point. So im pretty sure if we were to die she would take it very very hard, but would bear with it without any noticeable signs, but deep inside she would be hurt af. She just wouldnt show it.
Ningguang - Kind of the same scenario as Yae. She wouldnt show it but deep inside she would be a mess.

But of course everybody would take it hard, but i think personally these people would take it really hard. Thank you if you read this gynormous text. Also feel free to write down your own list. Im curious what others think about this!

Beidou would sing another Shanty just for Aether. maybe even name a boat before the traveler.
Xinqiu will write a book about the traveler's adventure, going as far as Mondstadt and Inazuma to learn of his tales.
Shenhe will lose her feeling of belonging to Liyue Harbor.
Zhongli will now remember traveler together with Guizhong.
Yae will organize a ceremony for traveler with permission of Ei.
Thoma will tell the story of how traveler saved him from the Vision Hunt Decree.
Gorou will visit Traveler's grave as often as he can, sometimes bringing Kokomi with him.
Kojou Sara will commend Traveler of their bravery and committment.
Jean, Venti, Kaeya and Diluc, Lisa, Barbara, Amber and Noelle will arrange the creation of Traveler's statue as commemoration.
Kazuha writes poems about the traveler from afar.
Noelle still reads books from the library to relive the memory of her and traveler together.
Keqing will take traveler's story to heart, and do her best to not overwork herself.

Itto: Crashing a mountain out of sadness and dismisses Arataki gang because he couldn't protect one of their member.
Sara: Press F to pay respect + it is raining(from fullmetal alchemist)
Ei: makin the rain even though she shouldn't care, stays at her world for a time to think not letting even Yae in.
Yae Miko: the ONLY day in the year she does not troll/bully/tease anyone.
Goro: Press F to pay respect #2 + Hatiko moment, but Kokomi comforts him.
Kokomi: Press F to pay respect #3 + great speech about Traveler to cheer people up.
Yoimiya: now every firework reminds of Traveler and what he asked about "what does fireworks mean to her"
Ayaka: depression, her only(after Thoma and her brother of course) friend died. She will work hard on protecting people to pay respect.
Ayato: PRESS F TO PAY RESPECT #4(i know that's annoying already, but these people are real warriors so it is right for them to PAY RESPECT by pressing F, after all this meme is from soldiers funeral in Call of Duty)
Thoma: Sad but overcomes it to live on. Keeps Travelers grave clean.
Sucrose: :( (idk what to say, but she would be sad like other so cant add anything new)
Xiangling: takes a break in cooking to grief and then create special recipe called Travelers Meal in memory of her dear friend.
Xinyan: takes a break for music, to then create a ballad in memory of Traveler.
Yunjin: joins Xianyan to make great ballad about Traveler.
Xingqiu: comforts Chung Yun and then writes a book about Travelers Journey to keep memory about him for centuries.
Beidou: drinks her pain away, Kazuha and her crew trying to comfort her in her grief.
Kazuha: has now 2 dead friends and visits both of their graves(probably will take care of Paimon if others couldn't)
Kaeya: becoming as grim as Diluc is. Now his dilemma is harder.
Jean: building a memorial for Traveler.
Fischl: ;(, Oz is trying to comfort.
Keqing: asks Ningguang to build Memorial in memory of Traveler. And she does.
Razor: howls on Trevelers grave. Maybe lives there to protect(Great Grey Wolf Sif #2)
Ganyu: cries a lot.
Shenhe: removes her ropes to "cry out her soul". Cloud Retainer is very afraid.
Rosaria: Prays for Travelers soul.
Yanfei: too busy to grief, but asks madam Pin to put some flowers on Travelers grave for her.
Madam Pin: keeps flowers on Travelers grave good.
Noelle: She is so sad, that it makes her to work hard and eventually she turns into Doom Slayer equivalent in Teyvat, slaying evil in the name of Traveler's sacrifice. Jean is afraid of her power, but she never interferes her. *DOOM MUSIC KICKS IN*
Sayu: shocked and promises to grow up faster and do her best in life.
