Bad idea, I think it should be optional

Some people may install the Pro version of Windows on their home computer, so it is a bad idea. Microsoft should not assume that only small businesses are using Windows Pro

In Rufus, check the Disable Bitlocker automatic device encryption option on the Windows User Experience page. This will customize the bootable USB image and save you from unwanted encryption.

Why would they force Bitlocker on new windows installs? Really seems like a bad idea.

Microsoft are idiots. There will be no BitLocker on my machines, EVER.

Yep my computers are old like one in 2012 and the other is 2014 and they are encrypt messages in messenger with contacts and I don't know what the key code is, had no connection with my children's for a few days until i did something (don't know what I did) and it did work. They are going crazy with all those new stuffs every time there is an update...my next computer is not going to be with Microsoft that is for sure....Hate my time on my computers since they started to put stuffs we don't need for elderly people and even my children work with computers on there jobs and they have a hard time to follow everything.

I am glad some of my computers are set up with up to six drives. If a windows drive gets encripted all i have to do is switch off power to that drive and turn on power to a Linux drive that has most of the importate material on it.

Who in the hell is running Microsoft Windows Division? They don't seem to ever get the message from their users. STOP MESSING WITH THE FOLKS THAT JUST WANT TO DO WHAT THEY WANT WITH THEIR OWN MACHINES. Whatever happened to messages that suggest if you want to be secure "We suggest... you do this". If they ever cause me to lose data, well I was going to make some threat but considering they are a monopoly (the only game in town) there is not much I can say or do about it. But you can be sure I will gig them every time they screw up with as much vocal enthusiasm as possible. Microsoft gives a whole new meaning to the term "Coporate Fascist".

The first thing I do when installing fresh Windoze is to check encryption. Not in the graphical settings like most people do. That is deceiving. It offers you to turn a bitlocker on from which you assume it is not turned on. But your used space is most likely being encrypted already. You need to either check it on the partition in Disk Management, or go into the terminal and put a lovely code in there to see whether it is encrypted or not. Windoze lies.

Must like Apple, Microsoft knows what's best for us ! 🤔

There is no need for informed users to panic. Just download the ISO now before 24H2 is the only version available. Keep it on a hard or USB drive for future reinstallations.

Does it block Microsoft access to the data?

Never thought about using it although from what I do understand few actually like it. Duno why though other than what you mentioned. 🤣I can only imagine if things run amuck though

I have a 23H2 ISO downloaded for when I want to reinstall. I am just an average home user.

Since I use WINPE to install Windows on my Mini PC to get all of the Drivers for my computer I will not have that problem, just updating afterwards will not encrypt my drives. Thanks for the information though.

My Win11 desktop won't boot if I'm not signed into my MS account. I don't want to be signed in, I don't want to be connected to MS that way. But if I sign out, my desktop won't boot up. Unacceptable, Microsoft!

I'm confused. I have 23H2 and have no desire or even the skills to re-install my computer. So where does that leave me? Does that mean, I won't be able to use my 23H2 computer as it is? That's rediculous. I bought is brand new a only last Spring. SO WHAT??? I'm sick of all this shit. I think Microsoft is obsessed with changing everything whether it makes sense of not. God, I miss my Winows 10.
