Many surgeons say they use their playlists to pace the day and even improve their concentration. What exactly are they listening to — and are these purported benefits proven?

How do you focus? It’s not distracting when I do homework but doing surgery is so stressful and you need to be focused the whole time

Kudos to that surgeon who plays Soundgarden and Green Day. Talk about the amount of focus and control

The doctors at UCSD downtown arbor street hospital, turned off the music when I died, in January 2020, during a foot surgery, and turned it back on when I moved with my head the sheet covering my head and body, and then turned the music back on when I came back to life, and finished my surgery. I was under spinal anesthesia so I could hear and see them but felt no pain.

I'm an anesthesiologist, and among my duties is to put my own playlist if the surgeon goes "sterile" before remembering to put on his. Playlists include everything from Russian, Egyptian, heavy metal etc... Time after time, music soothes the surgeon vs. anesthesiologist never ending conflict.

Hello I recently fell on both knees, my left knee has retained fluid, I can't workout and more. If I get the fluid drained can I start back working out and go back to regular exercises🙏🙏😇😇🤞🤞

Here's my input on this I believe that the patient should come first when it comes to music in the OR. Meaning when the patient is being prepped for surgery they should be asked what kind of music do they like. The surgical staff should respond by playing whatever they are requesting at least up until the point to where they are put under anesthesia. After that the surgical staff or anesthesiologist can go back to whatever playlist he or she was listening to while the patient is asleep. No Bon Jovi Bad Medicine is not an appropriate song for the operating room. And of course definitely no screaming heavy metal. Like with children ask the child what kind of music they like or if they want to hear some kind of story yours you know children stuff and just play that until they fall asleep.
