I miss feeling like I'm "done" with a game. That's a plus in my book.

20 hours out of a 20 pound game sounds like enough content for me. Not every game has to be infinitely replayable, and honestly with the oversaturation of games we have rn I prefer well made and short games.

The art is beyond beautiful.
I was kinda expecting Marty will do this one

Gotta say, I dig Second Wind. Great mix of in-depth and short reviews as well as long-form discussions about all things gaming. Hope you guys keep growing.

FFT like music and aesthetic
Into the breach like gameplay
Uniquely flashy and fast execution

I truly love this game

Wait.... The Ikari Warriors are in this game!? That's awesome!

It's good. The momentum-based mechanics, variable load outs and abilities in addition to the synch system make this a better tactics game than nearly any isometric entry since Persona or even XCOM 2.
Good music, fun and $25 buckaroos.

1:42 Ah, so the developers were aware the tactics game most comparable in gameplay was Into the Breach. The missions where you have to kill something on rails before it gets away are a type you'll see often.

Maybe, like with Into the Breach, they'll release free updates that expand the limited variety of missions, maps, and items.

I like that several others in the comments are excited for a 20ish hour game that you can feel "done" with at the end. I may turn Game Pass on for this (and a couple others, but this first)

Loving this so far, the adrenaline/dodge really helps stop the XCom overwatch turtle approach to the naturally cautious (i.e. me!)

I'm honestly just waiting for a new run and gun entry. THAT'S infinitely replayable by design even before customer retention became this dystopian thing

Waiting for a patch on Switch. The stages of the last level crash in Handheld mode (on top of general to heavy slowdown even docked).

As far as strategy games go, somebody on this channel should look into Arco. It's an incredible game with a distinctly unique (and cool IMO) combat system, with a solid storyline and good replayability. A hidden gem if I've ever played one.

Also, thanks for highlighting this game's existence, Metal Slug is loads of fun and it's interesting to see it in a different style.

The review seems fair, it's good basic gameplay with decent strayegic depth but there's not enough variety to support the roguelike multi run gameplay loop.

Though the review didn't mention how buggy the game is. It really feels unfinished at times.

But still, powering up the characters and creating multiple synch chains with bonus moves and bonus actions is really satisfying.

To be fair, the rogue-lite-ness is a bit turn off, but hey, it's on Game Pass, still worth a try... On the other hand Insryption is on Game Pass now too, so anyone missed it before should try it.

Yup, gonna have to dip into this sooner or later. I was never an SNK kid, but I did play a fair amount of Metal Slug on GameTap back in the day.

That said, an expansion later down the line would definitely help spice things up. Or at the very least, throw in a few more maps to keep things fresher for longer.

20hrs for free on Gamepass is a good deal for some arcade nostalgia

I do agree that the game wears out its welcome eventually, but I had a good time up until that point. The one thing I'll say is that it is pretty buggy at the moment, so I'd wait a couple months before buying to give them some time to patch it.

I did NOT realize leona was gonna be in this game, very tempted to

Watching this review, this looks like it's basically Into The Breach with bigger maps and less focus on knockback as a mechanic
