M-Audio M-Track Solo First Impressions (SM7b, Electric Guitar)

Here are my first impressions and tests of the M-audio M-Track Solo budget audio interface. This is one of the most affordable interfaces out there at only $50. Is it any good?

I’m using the MXL 990, XLR mic with the M-Audio M-Track Solo USB audio interface. When I record on audacity the recording is very low. I have the volume/gain knob for input one set at six or seven. When I normalize the audio to -3 db I can hear it okay, but there is a noticeable static like hum. Any recommendations or suggestions would be appreciated.

That last bit of gain is for Spinal Tap, that one goes to eleven.

I wonder if that bump in gain was by design? I’ve used potentiometers that were not very linear and had a huge change in resistance at the end.

Be great for live streaming. Don't need to use the downloadable stuff if you have the right equipment.

I am having weird issues with a condenser mic... and also the headphone output... not sure if the mic i have (rode nt1) is drawing too much power over USB but my lights are showing red and I cannot get any clear recording regardless of the headphone issue. Im using windows but maybe you're friend is right. If you have any audio guru suggestions that would be much appreciated

Using it with at2020 the sound input is very low. Even at 9 point gain still not what i want forget the 10 because it has sudden boost issue and will clip.

Call the crammed in lat few dbs of gain "the shower effect" because you know what im talking about
