Harley-Davidson Engines Have To Change, We May Not Like It

Harley-Davidson engines are going to change in a big way and it's going to be interesting to see what Harley-Davidson is going to do. Harley-Davidson is making a shift towards liquid cooling and they've been grooming us for years to be accepting of it. No need to panic just yet, we can guarantee Harley-Davidson is going to do everything possible to keep the engines mostly air cooled for as long as possible. Harley-Davidson also knows they can't just replace the engine with something that is obviously liquid cooled and make huge departure from what we consider a Harley-Davidson.

Would you ride a Harley-Davidson that looked air cooled but was actually fully water cooled? We're not just talking liquid cooled heads, but cylinders as well.

Water cooling might not be a hard no for me, but electric is definitely a hard no. Electric will never be under me, no matter what. EVER!

I seem to think oil cooling is best because it doesn't create rust like water

You can't keep adding displacement and power without dealing with that heat!

This would really drive up the value of the air-cooled motorcycles.

As far as the EPA goes, the Supreme Court has removed "Chevron Deference, " which means the bureaucrats can't make up law or change laws Congress hasn't made. They have been getting away with bureaucrats running the EPA and not following laws Congress set forth for 40 years. So, some of the things the EPA has done to us may have to be rescinded because they violate the law.

Air cooled engines are going to be around for a very very long time. There are people still building the hell out of twin cams, with parts so available you can swim in them. I definitely think water cooling the M8 would be ok. Especially when you are trapped in traffic with 100 plus degree weather.

You can't really blame Harley for evolving and trying out other types of engines. As for myself, I prefer the old air-cooled, carbureted engines which are exactly what a Harley is all about and as long as can acquire parts to keep mine running, that is exactly what I will do.

Baggers will be easy to hide a radiator,
Cruiser not so easy!!!
I’ll keep my evo softail on the road!!
I don’t care about being the fastest or most modern on my Harley.
I’ll drive my car if want easier!!

If the regs keep tightening HD will have no choice. The good thing is power and longevity can be optimized with liquid cooling.

Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 was fully liquid cooled like 20 years ago. Those bikes back then were over 110hp and 140lbft. It's been 20 years and Harley is just now catching up.

I'm in Indiana, no vehicle inspections so you can pollute all you want. A 1-owner immaculate liquid cooled 2002 Honda VTX 1800R for 3 grand was impossible to pass up. H-D was on to something with the V-Rod, the market wasn't ready for it at that time.☹️. I continue to enjoy your channel Gixxer.

Unless my '72 ElectraGlide and '97 WideGlide metamorphose overnight, I won't be riding one.
The '72 has quite admirably been doing what it's supposed to do since I bought it in 1980, and I imagine it'll keep doing it.
Good video, as usual.👍

I think the capitalist thing to do would be for Harley to offer liquid and air cooled engines as an option. Auto manufacturers offer different engines in the same model vehicle, why not motorcycles? Let the consumer pick what he/she wants.

There is no reason they can't produce a liquid cooled engine that outwardly looks like an air cooled engine, save for the radiator. But of course, they're already preparing us for the radiators by having the big, radiator-esque oil cooler on the M8 Softails.

Im in favor of OLD SCHOOL, LIKE MY 77 Shovel. She needed oil cause she always marked her spot. Lost a Diamond Stud in a gravel drive once, went back a week later and found it thanks to my Shovels spot.

Emissions requirements for a motorcycle is beyond asinine. They make next to no emissions, only a fraction of the population actually rides, and most riders park their bikes for half the year due to winter weather. Harley, and every other manufacturer, should be able to do whatever they want as far as emissions are concerned. Most people rip all the emissions garbage off the second they buy the bike anyways.

Trump said he's going to roll all those restrictive regulations back. 😅

The current new bikes hardly even sound like Harleys, so adding a radiator is a moot point. I think the sun is setting on Harley . The old bikes will continue you fill the void, until parts run out. If aftermarket companies don’t pick up the slack. Harleys will be antique bikes in 30 years
