I've always wondered why Valve has never just hired a small group of people to specifically do "holiday sized" updates for TF2 for them just for that small bit of quality assurance while avoiding having random people rebalance the game and make it bad.

it’s upsetting that a game that still has a thriving community has been abandoned for the most part; however, i do understand, and although a big update would be nice, the game is still fantastic as is. the only thing i get the community for being so passionately upset about is the bot problem, and until that is dealt with PROPERLY, i don’t see anyone giving up that fight.

Honestly, I'm really glad they added the "Community Fix" section in the workshop. There's a lot of really good fixes and improvements in there, hopefully Valve adds at least some of them.

To the people who are saying "tf2 is too old to get updates" remind me, how old is minecraft exactly? Nearly 15 years old and it was still getting regular updates by the time tf2 got its last major update.

Thanks to vscript, the community is now able to create their own major updates with new game modes and contracts on top of getting new maps on the workshop which is assuming valve greenlights it. A prime example is the official saxton hale game mode in the workshop.

I don't think it's unreasonable to say it might indeed be more of an update than usual (I'm holding out a shred of hope for missing stranges) but just not a big themed one like in the past.

I "only" want some rebalances

It would be nice to see some bad weapons in good shape but id much rather see some of the op items be nerfed a bit
Give a few weapons makeover and people should be interested to see the meta change

IMO the middle-ground position I'm in at this point is "Valve should probably just officially put the game into maintenance mode and admit there's not gonna be any more updates."

Like, not completely abandon it because it's got a lot of active players, fixing the bot problem and some of the broken stuff would be great, but I think it'd be fine if people weren't left hoping beyond hope for the Heavy Update.

I think it is most feasible that maybe a new social media person who may themself be a fan of the game. Hence the sudden burst of enthusiasm, hence the inside jokes and self-awareness, and hence the miscommunication. I know people who work in social media / marketing for video game developers and a major hurdle is the difficulty getting straight-forward information from devs (no doubt because they are working to deadlines and unsure about information themselves).

I mean, a game from 2007: Runescape, is still quite active with updates. If the community likes it, and the game is solid and provides $$$ for the company, why not keep updating it?

Seasonal Update is not far off from a Major Update: just make an update page, add a weapon or two and make some balance changes, and voila - your seasonal update has been transformed into a Major Update.
If they'd add also VSH (which is on the workshop, ready for Valve to pick up) then it'd be one of the biggest updates TF2 has ever received.

I think the “update-sized update” was an obvious way to make the blog post more humorous and to poke fun at the size of their past updates but they backpedaled after the response it got. Like “yeah this is gonna be bigger than past summer updates but this ain’t another jungle inferno”

To be honest here, i think the bots are really getting lesser and lesser and i don’t think it’s Valve’s work. It’s probably because the bots hosters got bored
