The final comic literally told us that the devs were tired. They don’t want to continue the game anymore and if the devs wanted to work on it then they’d have to do it alone.

So they buried it. They’ll let the original tf2 rest in peace now, but we are free to dig it up and bring it back in our own way without their further aid
