Valve just completely changed the future of TF2

The TF2 SDK release is the biggest thing to happen to the game in nearly 8 years, and opens the door to an incredible community based future. But what does this mean for Valve's involvement moving forward?

We won't know for sure until it happens - or doesn't. 2025's Scream Fortress (or summer update) will probably be one of the most important updates the game ever (hopefully) receives again.

It feels very appropriate, given TF2's origin as a Quake mod, that we end up at this point. It feels like a beautiful way to keep this game going forever.

It's a good ending the TF2s story, both literally with the final comic and metaphorically with the SDK being released. The games in OUR hands now. People say HL3 is a final retirement project for many of the Top Dogs at Valve and if that's true, then their recent actions surely line up with that.
