Thank you Blanche as this is great advice!👌🏼Being a smart traveler with common sense is key. We went to Cancun last May and had no issues at all. Stayed at resort in Hotel zone and went downtown during the day, had lunch and shopped. It was fun but stayed aware of our surroundings as we always do regardless. Our vacation in Cancun was amazing and memorable. We’ll be returning and already booked our next trip🤗 Thanks so much for sharing your travel adventures, tips and advice. Been traveling to Cancun since early 2000. Felt safe enough to upgrade to the highest level of one of the Mexico based Resort chains. Still going 2 x's a year. Also living in the N NJ area, I feel just as safe in Cancun as I do at home. Common sense is key!!!

We go to the Mayan Riviera area often and have never had any issues. Dont get involved in anything sketchy and you will be fine. Just like any other place be aware of your surroundings and dont flash your money or expensive jewelry around. If you are worried there are areas like Playacar in Playa del Carmen that are gated communities. Everyone going in gets stopped by security whether in vehicles or on foot at the gates. There are several resorts in there that are easy walking distance into downtown Playa del Carmen 5th Avenue tourist area. If you are still concerned you dont have to leave your resort to have a great vacation. Hang out at the pool or beach relax and enjoy the sun and warm weather

You mean Americans going to Mexico - other countries don't have a problem, it's just Americans. People should learn to speak spainsih as you're in Mexico and Spanish is their native tongue - just say respect and adjust to their rules
