Thank you so much for the heads up. We also have flown in and out of the cancan airport dozens of times, but like you said these scammers can look so official and helpful. Best to not talk to anyone, just like you said. 😊

Please, if you could take anything away from this video, this is it: DO NOT TALK TO ANYONE! Don't let anyone grab your luggage for you. Don't let anyone engage you in any communication. We have been vacationing in the Caribbean since 2013, and last month we went to Riviera Maya, Mexico for the first time, and have never had any bad experience, because we're suspicious of any stranger, whether they wear uniform or not. Be sure to have your airport transportation booked in your travel package that way you don't need to look for a private taxi service anywhere you go.

My wife and I have been to Cancun many times and love it but we encountered a new scam on our last trip in November. We were leaving to go home and went through airport security. As my wife was about to pass through the metal detector she realized she had her sunglasses (RayBan) on her head so she took them off and placed them in one of her bins on top of her sweatshirt. We grabbed all of our stuff and left security but when we passed a Sunglass Hut my wife realized she did not have her sunglasses. She knew she did not leave them in the bin because she had stacked the bins after emptying them. We went back to security and they gave us a runaround and said they didn't have them. Only after speaking with a supervisor and the supervisor saying they were going to check the security footage of our security lane did the sunglasses magically reappear within 1 minute. They said a passenger had turned them in. Bottom line - never place valuables in the bin in an easily accessible way. All this said we are still going back in February.

Ive been to Cancun, Two things: 1. the FIRST thing a friend of mine told me upon my first trip there, and about the Cancun airport is 'do NOT speak to anyone there when you are moving thru it'. They will ALL look official, clip boards, lanyards with IDs, simply do not speak to anyone. Research and know where you are going, and get there...period. 2. If this person has been to Cancun, why didnt they know about my #1? When you walk thru the airport, everyone is yelling at you to get your attention-excuse me-excuse me-I can take you over here, looking and sounding as if they work for the airport, the govt, etc. If you have booked to use some sort of service, that service will also inform you of what their rep looks like, sounds like, the signage to look for, and to NOT speak to anyone other than that or you will be roped into something that you do NOT want to participate in or with.

Thank you for posting this video, I’ve never had problems in Cancun but Puerta Vallarta was as an absolute circus and unfortunately my boyfriend was too polite to ignore people and tell them to take off. 🤦‍♀️ I will be telling him about this scam….Thanks again!

When i was leaving Georgetown, Guyana, a girl walked up to me and said, "Excuse me, i have too many bags. Could you check this bag in your name if you have room?" I never laughed at anyone so hard in my life.

We’ve had some guys take our bags before and walk us into the terminal. You’ve really got to be forceful to these folks to tell them to leave you alone.

I’m Mexican and last year I went there for the first time. At the airport many people approached us and we kept walking without talking to anybody. I do the same anywhere, Europe included.

Almost got scammed in Cancun. Private transport driver dropped us off at the wrong terminal. At first we thought it was a honest mistake but when taxi drivers tried to charge us $75 USD to drive us to the correct terminal I realized it was a scam. Luckily I was able to get the company to get the same driver to pick us back up. Be aware and have everything planned with a legit company ahead of time.

I frequently drop $20k-30k+ at rosewood, Aman, four seasons for a week of stay in Hawaii and other safer destinations. I just can’t bring myself to go to Mexico with all the safety issues. If they want more premium customers they need to crack down on the scammers, ensure safety with beverage and food, and go hardcore on kidnappers. I don’t need stress during my travel.

I hate the Cancun airport. Scammers are in full force there even though you tell them no.

Great info! We subscribed! We're planning our first trip to the area and looking forward to filming our first video series in that part of Mexico! We've been regulars in Vallarta for a few years now but this is a new place for us. Your channel is very helpful.

Absolutely private transportation is a must. Also book transportation to the resort that you’re staying at. I always use Thomas Moore transportation! The driver speak both Spanish and English, which is also a plus to travelers! Be safe people

Thanks for this update. I go to Cancun almost every year and fortunately have not been scammed. However, I was not aware of this latest scam. I trust my drivers to get me to the right terminal and as a somewhat experienced world traveler, I know that even if I were in the wrong terminal, there's often a free shuttle bus that connects passengers to other terminals. Therefore, I'd never willingly get into a car at the airport unless it's to go to the hotel. Given the way this scammer was described as someone who looked very "official", I'll remember not to talk to ANYONE but a ticket agent inside the terminal if this ever happens to me. Afterall, if I am indeed in the wrong terminal, they would advise me how to get to the right one.
